Donald Gordon Smock;58;of Belle Vernon R.D.2;died Saturday;Oct.27;in VA Medical Center;Pittsburgh. He was born Nov.25;1920;in Belle Vernon;son of the late Gilbert F.Smock;who died Oct.21;1974;and Mary Jane Amalong Smock;who survives in Belle Vernon. He was a U.S.Army veteran of World War II;a member of American Legion Post 659 of Belle Vernon and the Rehoboth Presbyterian Church. He was a lifelong resident of Belle Vernon. Survivors include his mother;three daughters;Patty Jo Bartlett;Nancy Lee Smock and Donna Smock;two brothers;Roy Smock of Belle Vernon and Elwood Smock of Uniontown;two grandchildren. One of the Belle Vernon Area’s early residents;Frederick F.Shearer;died Saturday;Aug.18;1979;in Mon Valley Hospital;at the age of 90. Mr.Shearer was born in Jefferson Township;May 31;1889;son of the late James and Amelia Wright Shearer. He was a life long resident of Belle Vernon and was a member of one of Fayette County’s pioneer families. His grandfather;Frederick Shearer;was one of Fayette County’s original commissioners;who was instrumental in establishing the county’s home for the poor. He was also very active and held many offices in the Belle Vernon Presbyterisn Church. A carpenter by trade;he was a member of the Carpenters Local of Charleroi. Preceding him in death was his wife;Bertha Blythe Shearer;in May of 1975. Surviving are one son;Rollin C.Shearer of San Jose;Calif.;one daughter;Mrs.William J.(Thelma) Govier of Monessen;one sister;Helen Shearer of Markleysburg;four grandchildren;Frank Govier of Florence;Ky.;Mrs.Kathy Davies of Monessen;John Shearer and Nancy Shearer of San Jose;Calif.;and three great-grandchildren. Victor F.Silvestro of 812 Speer St.;Belle Vernon;retired owner and operator of Vic’s Clothing Store of North Belle Vernon;died Monday morning;Aug.6;1979;in Mon Valley Hospital;Carroll Twp. He was 69. Mr.Silvestro was born April 1;1910;in California;Pa.;a son of the late Charles and Madeline Silvestro. He was a member and past president of North Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department;a member of the Westmoreland County Fireman’s Asociation;a charter member;past president and privileged member of Belle Vernon Lions Club;and a member of Monongahela Valley Country Club. Mr.Silvestro retired from the clothing store business in January 1977. Surviving are his widow;Jean Caruso Silvestro;two daughters;Mrs.Charles (Norma) McKime of Indianapolis;Ind.;and Vicki Silvestro at home;two sisters;Mary Silvestro of California;Pa.;and Mrs.Teresa Dunn of Whitehall;a brother;Joseph Silvestro in Florida;and three grandchildren.
