Barbara Consonery Bates; 89; of Charleroi; died peacefully in her sleep; Saturday; June 7; 2008. She was born April 27; 1919; in Monessen; a daughter of the late John and Martha Huscroft Bush. Barbara was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monessen and the AARP. Survivors include two daughters; Patricia Piccardo; of Ormand Beach; Fla. and Jacqueline Samuels; of Lucedale; Miss.; a stepson; Jay Bates; of Newport News; Va.; 10 grandchildren; William Henderson and wife Donna; Wayne Henderson; Donn Henderson and wife; Lorraine; all of Charleroi; Cheryl Smith and husband; Rob; of Maryland; David Henderson; of West Virginia; Robin Grimm and husband; Ted; of Washington; Pa.; Lisa Coneeny and husband; Dwayne; of Vermont; Christi Henderson and husband; Mike; of Rush Spring; Okla.; Faith Seals and husband; Vance; and Carroll Van Nort and wife; Lauren; all of Lucedale; Miss.; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great- grandchildren. In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by husbands Peter Consonery (1976) and George Bates (1993); daughter; Barbara Miller; stepson; Rev. Ewing Bates; granddaughter; Gina Brinson; sisters; Ivy Steiner and Georgina Harden Ritchie and her husband; Woodrow. Friends will be received Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the ED MELENYZER FUNERAL HOMES INC.; 825 Fallowfield Ave.; Charleroi; where a funeral service will be held Thursday; June 12; at 11 a.m. with Chaplain Bob Simonsick officiating. JOHN CALVIN ( CAL ) SMITH
John Calvin Cal Smith; 84; of Monessen; went to join his beloved wife on Sunday; May 17; 2009; in Westmoreland Hospital. He was born Thursday; July 24; 1924; in Monessen; a son of the late George and Grace Bedsworth Smith. He worked as a carpenter for Derby Construction and was self-employed prior to his retirement. Mr. Smith was an U.S. Army veteran; serving in World War II. He was a member of the First Christian Church and the American Legion Post 28; Monessen. Mr. Smith was a member of the Carpenter’s Union Local 1044. Survivors are daughter; Barbara and husband Lloyd Buddy Eicher of Farmington; daughter Patricia Terensky of Monessen; daughter Elaine Smith of Monessen; daughter Carol and husband Paul Petrusky of Latrobe; son Gary and wife Doreen Smith of Monessen; daughter Geraldine and husband Kenneth Bojarski of Bethel Park; grandson; Christopher Bojarski; granddaughter Abigail Smith; a brother; Jay Smith of Monessen; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; Adeline Gilotty Smith; and a brother; Vernon Smith. Arrangements have been entrusted to the RHOME FUNERAL HOME INC.; family owned and operated as a member of the Golden Rule; 1209 Grand Boulevard; Monessen; where visitation will be held on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Memorial contributions in Mr. Smith’s name may be made to the First Christian Church of Monessen in lieu of flowers.
