Harry E. Malone Jr.; 81; of Monessen; died Monday; Sept. 8; 2008; in Mountainview Specialty Care Center; Unity Township. He was born in Monessen on June 5; 1927; a son of the late Harry E. Sr. and Helen Isenberg Malone. Harry was a lifelong resident of Monessen and a 1945 graduate of Monessen High School. He was a member of First Christian Church and the Mon Valley Chordsmen. Mr. Malone retired from the Monessen Southwestern Railroad as a supervisor. He served his country during World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS AWS Benson and USS Gainard. He is survived by his son and daughter-in- law; Bruce D. and Elizabeth Malone; of Rostraver Township; his daughter and son-in-law; Colleen and Michael Rogers; of Catlettsburg; Ky.; two grandsons; Jimmy Lee and John Rogers; and nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his wife; Loretta Walters Malone; and his brother; Howard Malone. Robert Wayne Nelson Sr.; 85; of Belle Vernon (Washington Township); died Saturday; Aug. 30; 2008; at 3:44 p.m. in Allegheny General Hospital; Pittsburgh. Born Oct. 3; 1922; in Monessen; he was a son of the late James W. Nelson I and Grace Vogel Nelson. A resident of Washington Township for the past 58 years; Mr. Nelson was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church in Belle Vernon and a retired steam plant operator from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel; Monessen Plant with 43 years of service. His favorite pastimes were hunting and fishing with his brother Jim and his grandchildren; doing crossword puzzles and making his weekly trip to Wheeling Island. Mr. Nelson loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed his garden. Mr. Nelson will be greatly missed. He is survived by the love of his life; his wife; Lorraine Walker Nelson; to whom he was married 62 years; two sons and daughters-in-law; Robert W. Jr. and Pamela Nelson; and Christopher T. He was a retired press operator from General Motors Fisher-Body; West Mifflin. Mr. Hefner was a veteran of the Korean conflict; where he served in the U.S. Army. He also was a member of the Monongahela Slovak Club.
