Jack N. Monack; 82; of Sun City Hilton Head; S.C.; died on Aug. 31; 2010. Mr. Monack was born in Charleroi on Aug. 15; 1928; to Jules S. and Emma Jane Nelson Monack. He was a graduate of Charleroi High School; Billard Naval Academy; West Virginia Wesleyan College; and was a veteran of the Korean War; serving as a special agent in the Counter Intelligence Corps. Mr. Monack resided in Columbus; Georgia; Monessen; Clairton; and Rostraver Township; Wheeling; West Virginia; St. Louis; Miss.; and Van Wert; Ohio; where he enjoyed a successful career in management with U.S. Steel; Alexander Proudfoot; Continental Can Corporation; and eventually retiring from Sunoco Products Company in 1993. In addition to being an avid golfer; he was active in numerous charitable and service organizations throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 57 years; Carol Beatty Monack. Michael Tolkach; 95; of Roscoe; formerly of Charleroi; died Sunday Aug. 29; 2010; in Monongahela Valley Hospital. He was born in Mt. Michael was a member of the Board of Directors of Charleroi Federal Savings Bank; and prior to retirement was self-employed as the owner of the former Charleroi Foodland Supermarket. Charles Samuel Miller; 84 of Belle Vernon; PA; passed away Wednesday; January 18; 2012 in Mon Valley Hospital; Carroll Twp; Pa.

He was born November 27; 1927 in Charleroi; PA; a son of the late Samuel Miller and the late Marie Malinsky Miller. He served in the US Army during the Korean War; was a member of the Lions Club and a member of Lynnwood Lutheran Church; Belle Vernon; Pa.

Lonnie Scott Jr.; a Monessen youth sports volunteer and a high school official who worked WPIAL games; died of cancer Monday at McKeesport Hospital. He was 63.

Mr. Scott coached and organized youth sports; including football; basketball and baseball. When he was not coaching games; Mr. Scott could be found in the concession stand or maintaining the city’s athletic fields.

If it wasn’t for him; there might not be midget football or basketball in Monessen; said his friend Napoleon Madison; who also volunteers his time to youth sports in Monessen. When people think of Lonnie; they think of youth sports in Monessen. He was strictly out for the kids.

Mr. Madison said Mr. Scott had a tough exterior; but he also had a soft spot in his heart for the children of Monessen. If one of the young boys in the baseball program needed a pair of cleated shoes; Mr. Scott would pay for them out of his own pocket. If one of the boys had not been fed; he would make sure they would not go home hungry.

He would make sure all the kids got to and from practice; too; Mr. Madison said. He used to pick them up in his work truck; just load them in the back of his truck. I told him it wasn’t worth him losing his job over it; but that’s how important youth sports was to him.

Mr. Scott officiated WPIAL sports contests; mostly in Westmoreland; Washington and Fayette counties.

Mr. Scott served a four-year stint in the Navy after graduating from Monessen High School. He worked for Allegheny Power for 39 years before retiring.

Mr. Scott is survived by his longtime companion Gina Thorpe of Monessen; and children Chad Scott of White Oak; Anthony Scott of West Newton; Marley Scott Faulks of Pittsburgh and Loni Scott; Vincent Campbell and Alicia Campbell; all of Monessen.

He also is survived by brothers James Scott of Pittsburgh and Kevin Scott of Jacksonville; Fla.; and sisters Lorraine Rhodes of Camp Hill; Pa.; Frances Scott of Harrisburg; Valarie Jones of Pittsburgh; Marsha Green of Aurora; Colo.; and Joyce Scott of Pittsburgh.

Visitation will take place from 2 to 8 p.m. today in Mount Calvary Baptist Church; 230 Reed Ave.; Monessen. A service will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday in the church.

Ruby Draper-McCraw; 98; of Rostraver Township; formerly of Monessen; was called to glory Saturday; Aug. 21; 2010; in the Cherry Tree Nursing Center in Uniontown. Born in Monessen; Sept. 26; 1911; she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary Stamper Draper. In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband; Harry K. McCraw; two daughters; Marilyn McCraw-Simpson and Harrietta McCraw-Bailey; one brother; Beverly C. Draper Sr.; and one sister; Dundeenah Draper. Ruby was a 1929 graduate of Monessen High School; a faithful and devoted member of the Union Baptist Church; where she served as Sunday School secretary and teacher; pianist; and president of the Senior Missionary Society in the Youghiogheny Western Baptist Association. She served as president of the Junior Convention; president of the Women’s Home and Foreign Mission Convention; a past president of the Pennsylvania State Convention Women’s Auxiliary; and was active in the Lott Carey Convention. In recent years; Ruby was a regular attendee at the Acorn Adult Day Center in Monessen. Leaving to cherish her memory are one daughter; Carolyn (Alphonse) Carter; three grandaughters; Shelley (Robert) Ramsey; of Rostraver; with whom she made her home; Sharon Bailey; of Houston; Texas; and Dr. Cynthia Carter; of Boston; one grandson; Dale (Michele) Simpson; of Monessen; two great-grandsons; Robert R.
