Thomas Royce Brown; Age 67; of Tampa; Fl. passed away Monday; November 19; 2012. He was born in Scunthorpe; England and moved to Florida 40 years ago from Pittsburgh. He worked at GTE for over 20 years; a die hard Steelers fan; he was a member of the Bay Area Black and Gold Club and an Eagle Scout. He was predeceased by his father; Thomas A. Brown. Royce was a caring father and grandfather. He loved playing with his grandchildren and he always had time to help a friend. Richard Dick Baran; 72; of Monessen; passed away Thursday; Dec. 20; 2012 in Monongahela Valley Hospital. A son of the late Michael R. and Irene Rowan Baran; he was born in Donora on March 13; 1940. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Monessen; the Monessen Firemen’s Club No. 1; the Belle Vernon Moose Lodge 209; where he had been a governor and legionnaire; the Russian Club of Pricedale; and the Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659. A resident of Monessen since 1969; he had been employed at the former National Tube and retired in 2004 from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He was a U.S. Marine veteran. Augustine Soroka; 97; formerly of Belle Vernon; passed away on Dec. 31; 2013; at Nevaeh Cove Personal Care Home; Charleroi. A daughter of the late Theodore and Irene Pawlack Soroka; she was born in Pricedale on Oct. 12; 1916. Augustine was a member of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church; St. Barbara’s Altar Guild and the Belle Vernon Golden Agers. She was a lifelong resident of Belle Vernon. Augustine had been employed by Monongahela Valley Hospital as a seamstress and the former Charleroi-Monessen Hospital before her retirement in 1988. Survivors include four sisters and three brothers-in-law; Stevanna Lis of HopewellTownship; Helen Evansky and her husband; William; of Forest Hills; Vera Trona and her husband; Anthony; of Canonsburg; and Martha Zeli and her husband; Ronald; of Belle Vernon; and many nieces and nephews. Gordon A. Savarno; 67; of New Eagle; went to be with the Lord on Thursday December 6; 2012. A son of the late Adolph and Maryanne McKensey Savarno; he was born October 12; 1945 in Charleroi. Gordon retired from Pratt and Whitney; in North Haven Connecticut; where he was a foreman and following his retirement moved to New Eagle where he has resided for the past four years. He is a veteran of the US Army and enjoyed working on and collecting model trains as well as hunting. In addition to his parents; he is preceded in death by a sister Diane McDuffie; who passed away in 1998. He is survived by his wife of 44 years; Michiko Fushikida Savarno; two daughters and a son-in-law; Lisa Savarno of Durham; CT and Tracie Parker and husband Terris of Middletown; CT; two grandchildren; Shawn Law and Jalicia Parker; and two cousins; Edward Savarno of Belle Vernon and Albert Protin of Charleroi. John ‘Ed’ Martin; 85; of Belle Vernon; went to be with the Lord on Thursday; December 6; 2012 in UPMC Mercy Hospital; Pittsburgh. A son of the late Harry ‘Bud’ and Dorothy Abbey Martin; he was born in Belle Vernon on September 18; 1927. Ed was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church of Belle Vernon; where he was very active; and served as a trustee and deacon. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon; he had served in Guam with the U.S. Air Force following World War II and retired in 1983 from the Irvin Works of U.S. Steel. Survivors include his wife of 64 years; Freeda Mae Casteel Martin; one son; Ed Martin; Jr.; one sister; Grace Trembach; all of Belle Vernon and numerous nieces and nephews.
