Elizabeth Carter-Stokes; 83; of Donora; died Friday; Sept. 13; 2013; in Humbert Lane Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre; Washington; Pa.; following a lingering illness. Born Jan. 18; 1930; in Axton; Va.; she was the oldest daughter of the late Everett and Viola Carter. In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband; Edward L. Stokes; and three brothers; James; Richard and Floyd Carter. Elizabeth graduated from Rostraver High School in 1947. Liz as she was affectionately called in her Home Economics class was best described as . . . neat . . . popular with her associates . . . fond of music . . . liked to read good books . . . ambitious to become an expert seamstress . . . had pleasant personality and would be an asset in achieving her ends. She was a devoted and loving wife; mother; grandmother to her family. She was a member of Wayman-Quinn Chapel AME Church of Monessen and the former Quinn Chapel AME Church in Donora where she served on the Stewardess and Missionary boards. His widow and three sons survive. Dr.Marston had been located in Belle Vernon for about 33 years and was one of the best known physicians of the upper Monongahela Valley.

A daughter of the late Charles B. and Julia Dungan Hail; she was born in Cincinnati; Ohio; on April 2; 1927. A graduate of Belle Vernon High School in 1945; she was a member of the Belle Vernon Church of the Nazarene and had been a Girl Scout Leader. Formerly of Belle Vernon; she had resided the past four years in Dunlevy and prior to that; 23 years in Florida. She was active in the Venice; Florida Church of the Nazarene and taught Sunday school in both Belle Vernon and Venice. Dorothy worked as an LPN in the Venice; Florida Hospital and volunteered at the Reynolds Memorial Hospital in Washim; India.
