John Uncle John Erdely;75;of Charleroi;died Friday;July 17;1992;in Mon Valley Hospital;Carroll Township. Mr.Erdely was born April 4;1917;in Arnold City;a son of the late John and Susan Moses Erdely. He was a retired employee of the former Monessen Works of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corporation. Mr.Erdely was a U.S.Army veteran of World War II;having served as a first sergeant with the Second Ranger Battalion;where he participated in the D-Day invasion of Europe. He was a graduate of Marion Junior High School;where he received the American Legion award. Mr.Erdely was also a graduate of Fayette City High School;where he was an outstanding football player. He was a member of Charleroi American Legion Post 22 and the former Eagles Aeerie of Charleroi. Surviving are one brother;Joseph Erdely of Centerville;two sisters;Rose Marie Merashoff and Irene Stechly;both of Ellsworth and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are five sisters;Susan and Julia Lovas;Mary Erdely;Esther McGelvray and Thelma Wilkinson;and two brothers;Julius and Frank Erdely. Age Assembly and the WeModerns Bridge Club.

He was born in Pricedale;Rostraver Township;on Aug.26;1920;a son of the late Ziga and Elizabeth Herbai Evans. Mr.Evans was a member of the Calvary Tabernacle Church in Monongahela. He had been a lifelong resident of Rostraver Township. He retired from General Motors;Fisher Body Division;in 1982. Mr.Evans held memberships in the National Rifle Association and the Pennsylvania Trappers Association Inc. A veteran of World War II;he had served in the South Pacific in the Seabees of the Navy. Prior to his retirement;Mr.Evans was employed at the Page Division of American Chain and Cable Co.;Monessen;where he was a wire drawer. He was a member of St.Paul Lutheran Church;Monessen. In addition to his parents;he was preceded in death by two brothers;Charles and Philip. Surviving are his wife;Marjory Feightner Evans;one daughter;Marjory;one son;Robert H.Evans;one granddaughter;Laurie Barger;three brothers;Albert Evans of Coal Center;Howard Evans of Monessen and Frank Evans of New Eagle;and several nieces and nephews.
