Born in Clarksville;Pa.;Nov.27;1888;he was the son of the late John and Margaret Widdup Holder. He had lived in the Belle Vernon area for over 80 years. He was the owner and operator of John L.Holder Grocery Store on Market St. in Belle Vernon;and had retired in 1969. A former member of the North Belle Vernon Fire Department;Mr.Holder was also a member of the Junior Order of American Mechanics. He was preceded in death by his wife;Muriel McKinley Holder;one son;Warren Holder;and one daughter;Mrs.LLoyd (Margaret) Christopher. Mr.holder is survived by two sons;Richard J.Holder of Providence;R.I.;and John L.Holder;with whom he resided;one daughter;Mrs.Joseph (Dolores) Balogh of Centerville;Ohio;five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. J.Russell Hormell of 513 McKean Ave.;Charleroi;was dead on arrival Wednesday;Feb.1;1978;at 2 p.m.at Charleroi Division of Mon Valley Hospital. He was 85. Mr.Hormell was born Sept.1;1892 in Coal Center;a son of the late John Thomas and Anna Elizabeth Day Hormell. He was a member of the First Christian Church and VFW Post 167;both in Charleroi;World War I Barracks;and UTW Local 1666;Monessen. He was a veteran of World War I;having served in the U.S.Army;Company G.;319th Infantry. Mr.Hormell ws retired from Monessen Southwestern Railroad of the former Pittsburgh Steel Company;Monessen. Survivors include his wife;Mary Frank Hormell;two daughters;Mrs.James (Frances) Metz of Johnstown;Ohio;and Mrs.Blanche Cornwell of Columbus;Ohio;one step-daughter;Mrs.Daniel (Carson) Leezer of New Eagle;14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Charles W.Hammitt;91;of 337 Green St.;Belle Vernon;died Sunday;Jan.29;1978;at 12:45 p.m.at his home. He was a lifelong resident of the Belle Vernon area;born there on May 30;1886. His parents were the late John and Ruth Helen Wiltsee Hammitt. Mr.Hammitt was a member of the First Baptist Church;Belle Vernon. He retired from the Monessen Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp in 1954. His wife;Maude Tharpe Hammitt;preceded him in death on March 17;1963. Surviving are one daughter;Mrs.Joseph (Zelma) Kostelac of Belle Vernon;with whom he resided;four grandchildren;Mrs.Lois Mazur of Monessen;Mrs.Shirley Whitmyer of Tucson;Ariz.;Mrs.Norma Keller of Livonia;Mich;and Charles DeHusse of East Lake;Ohio;11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Lillian B.Gaul;97;formerly of Rostraver Township;died Saturday;Nov.18;2000;in Country Care Manor;Fayette City. A daughter of the late David and Mary Brooks;she was born May 21;1903;in Bentleyville. A protestrant by faith;she has lived in Rostraver Township for over 50 years. Survivors include a sister;Maurvoreen Shronovich of Bentleyville;two grandsons;Rick Gaul of North Belle Vernon and John Norman Gaul of Rostraver Township;and two great-grandchildren;Jon Robert Gaul and Gianna Nicole Gaul. Lloyd K.Githens;93;formerly of Belle Vernon;died Monday;Nov.13;2000. Born May 28;1907;in North Belle Vernon;he was the son of the late William and Elma Shepler Githens. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon;a life member of the North Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Department;and a former member and past president of the Belle Vernon Lions Club. He had been a member of the Rostraver Township Sewage Authority for 10 years. He was a member of the site selection committee and the building committee of both the current buildings of the North Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Depatrment and First Presbyterian Church. Mr.Githens had lived in Greensburg the past 2 1/2 years and had previously lived in Rostraver Township. He had been in the real estate and insurance business;starting in 1937. He went into partnership with the R.C.Thompson Real Estate and Insurance Agency in 1954 for several years until buying that business and forming Githens Agency. He operated that business until his etirement in 1974;at which time it became the Githens Insurance Center;operated by his son until 1997. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law;Robert and Jyulene Githens of Greensburg;a daughter;Marilyn Githens Tiscot of Woodbury;N.J.;three sisters;Edna Lambert of York;Grace Chalfant of Fairless Hills and Elizabeth McSteen of Pinehurst;N.C.;eight grandchildren;Robert J.Tiscot Jr.;Meg Tiscot Geschwind;Pam Tiscot Muszkowicz;Gayle Githens Hughes;Jodie Githens Bouvery;Susan Githens Cable;Lynn Caccamese DeCaro and Suanne Caccamese;and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents;he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 1/2 years;Alice Humphries Githens;in December;1998;and four brothers;William;Ellison;Robert and Albert Githens.
