Born in Clarksville;Pa.;Nov.27;1888;he was the son of the late John and Margaret Widdup Holder. He had lived in the Belle Vernon area for over 80 years. He was the owner and operator of John L.Holder Grocery Store on Market St. in Belle Vernon;and had retired in 1969. A former member of the North Belle Vernon Fire Department;Mr.Holder was also a member of the Junior Order of American Mechanics. He was preceded in death by his wife;Muriel McKinley Holder;one son;Warren Holder;and one daughter;Mrs.LLoyd (Margaret) Christopher. Mr.holder is survived by two sons;Richard J.Holder of Providence;R.I.;and John L.Holder;with whom he resided;one daughter;Mrs.Joseph (Dolores) Balogh of Centerville;Ohio;five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His parents were the late John and Ruth Helen Wiltsee Hammitt. Mr.Hammitt was a member of the First Baptist Church;Belle Vernon. He retired from the Monessen Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp in 1954. His wife;Maude Tharpe Hammitt;preceded him in death on March 17;1963.
