James Melvin Haywood of Front Street;Fredericktown;died at Haven Crest on Wednesday;Jan.18;1984;at 6:32 a.m. He was 99. Born May 11;1884;in Belle Vernon;he was a son of the late Thomas and Catherine Haywood. Mr.Haywood was a member ofthe First United Methodist Church of Fredericktown and the Beth-Center Senior Citizens. A resident of Fredericktown for the past 14 years;Mr.Haywood had also made his home in Allenport and Dunlevy. He retired from the Allenport Plant of the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp.in 1960. He was preceded in death by his wife;Catherine Guder Haywood in 1960 and three sons;Richard in 1925;Melvin in 1945 and Leland in 1981. Surviving are one son;Clifton R.Haywood of Phillipsburg;Mo.; a daughter and son-in-law;Rev.Charles K.and Mary Lou Sowden of Fredericktown;with whom Mr.Haywood made his home;nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Clifford E.Harn of 1108 Broad Ave.;Rostraver Twp.;died Saturday;Nov.19;1983;at 8:30 a.m. at his home. He was 68. Mr.Harn was born Aug.15;1915;in South Brownsville;a son of the late Benjamin and Agnes Larson Harn. He was preceded in death by one brother;Kenneth Harn. A resident of the Belle Vernon area for the past 37 years;Mr.Harn was a member of First Presbyterian Church;Belle Vernon. He was a veteran of World War II;having served in the U.S.Army. Mr.Harn was a member of Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659;Monessen Southwestern Retirees Association and was a life member of the United Transporation Union Local 1676. Mr.Hega was born Nov.26;1906;in Charleroi;a son of the late George J.and Mary Hega. A lifelong resident of the mid-Mon Valley;he was a member of St.Sebastian Roman Catholic Church of Belle Vernon. Mr.Hega was a veteran of World War II;having served in the U.S.Army. He retired in 1972 from the Allenport Plant of the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp.;where he had been employed as a shearman. Katie Mae Haten of 87 Carson St.;Pricedale;died Monday;Aug.1;1983;in the Mon Valley Hospital. She was 65. Mrs.Haten was born Dec.7;1918;in Saraton;Ala.;a daughter of the late Edward and Leila Hale Brown. A resident of Monessen most of her life;she was a member of Antioch Baptist Church;Belle Vernon. In addition to her parents;Mrs.Haten was preceded in death by a son;Reginald Lewis Haten;1980;and a sister;Eddie Mae Arnold;1963. Esther Tolf Hott; of 1608
Maple Ave.; Monessen; died Friday;July 29;1983; at 2:05 p.m. in her
home following a lengthy illness. She was 88.
Mrs. Hott was born Dec. 31;
1894; in Rankin; Pa.; a
daughter of the late
Frederick and Emily
Bengstun Tolf.
She had been employed as a
supervisor at the former tin
mill in Monessen and had also
worked at the former Pittsburgh Steel Company; there;
during World War II.
Mrs. Hott had performed
the Sexton duties at St. Paul’s
Lutheran Church; Monessen;
for 35 years; and was also the
oldest living charter member
of St. Paul’s Luthern Church.
She was also a member of the
Fidelity Bible Class of the
Church.
Mrs. Hott was preceded in
death by a sister; Laura
Frew; in 1979; by a brother;
Anthony Tolf; in 1959; by a
granddaughter; Joanne
Molle; in 1950; and by a great-granddaughter; Patti Ann
Molle; in 1968.
Surviving are three
daughters; Mrs. Joseph
(June) Molle of Orange Springs; Fla.; Mrs. John (Alice)
DiBiaso of Monessen (with
whom she made her home);
and Mrs. Thomas (Betty)
Boyer; also of Monessen;
eight grandchildren; and 18
great-grandchildren.

Monessen; Sunday from 7 to 9
p.m. and Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Prayer Service will be held at 10 a.m.Tuesday in the funeral home;followed by additional services at 10:30 a.m.in St.Paul’s Lutheran Church;Monessen;with the Rev.Charles Barber;pastor;officiating.
