Mrs. Hughes retired from the
Belle Vernon Area School District;
where she had been employed
18 years as a teacher’s
aide.
She was a member of the
Reorganized Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter Day Saints;
Charleroi
In addition to her parents;
she was preceded in death by
one daughter; Nancy Torlone;
in 1973; and three brothers;
Sam; Bill and Russell Zollars.
Survivors include her husband;
Robert C. Hughes; three
sons; Richard Hughes of North
Huntingdon Township; James
Hughes of New Stanton and
Joseph Hughes of Elkins;
W.Va.; one daughter; Ellen
Mackey of Scottdale; one sister;
Lillian Burgoyne of Charleroi;
10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was a member of St.John’s Roman Catholic Church; the Knights of Columbus Council Number 4427;and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Gold Star Post 7023;all of Perryopolis. He was a member of the Bishop O’Connor Assembly Number 921 Fourth Degree;Connellsville;and the Brick Layers Association;Pittsburgh Division. He was a veteran of World War II;having served in the U.S. Navy. Survivors include his wife;Matilda Shamdosky Havadich;two daughters;Mrs.Greg (Beth Ann) Berkebile of Belle Vernon and Rebecca Havadich of Pittsburgh;one son and daughter-in-law;Thomas A.and Joy Havadich of Belle Vernon;four grandchildren;and three sisters;Mrs.T.Randall (Helen) Evans and Mrs.Jack (Irene) Strugis;both of Belle Vernon;and Mrs.Edmond (Patti) Lawrence of Oxon Hill;Md. Burial will be in Belle Vernon Cemetery. A wake service will be held Wednesday at 8 p.m.in the funeral home. Born Jan.12;1918;in Pricedale;he was a son of the late Arthur and Mary Jane Hutchinson Harrison. Protestant by faith;he was a U.S.Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Charleroi VFW Post and Belle Vernon Masonic Lodge 643 F&AM. In addition to his parents;he was preceded in death by his wife;Margaret A.Basile Harrison;on May 17;1997. Survivors include four brothers-in-law;James;Rohland;Ross and Anthony Basile;all of Belle Vernon;and a sister-in-law;Mary Mate of Pittsburgh. Mrs.Harrison was a member of Pricedale Union Church and the Belle Vernon Order of the Eastern Star. Surviving are her husband;John Jack Thomas Harrison;four brothers;James;Rohland;Ross and Anthony Basile;all of Belle Vernon and one sister;Mary Mate of Pittsburgh.
