Violet Thompson Reich;97;formerly of Sandbank Road;Belle Vernon (Fairhope);died Friday;Dec.15;1989;at 5:10 p.m.at Chyrel’s Retirement Home;California;Pa. She was born Oct.25;1892;in New Eagle;a daughter of the late William and Margaret Charleston Thompson. Mrs.Reich was a lifelong resident of the Mon Valley and Protestant by faith. In addition to her parents;she was preceded in death by her husband;John Reich in September of 1952;a daughter;Martha Holcomb in February of 1962;three sons;Paul in January of 1967;William in April of 1972 and Walter in March of 1980;and three sisters and four brothers. She is sruvived by a grandson;George Reich;a granddaughter;Jean Reich;two great-granddaughters;one nephew;and a daughter-in-law;Dorothy Reich;of Belle Vernon. Friends will be received at the Leonard J.Parzynski Funeral Home;626 Broad Ave.;Belle Vernon;Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m.in the funeral home with the Rev.Timothy R.Eyring;pastor of the Belle Vernon Church of the Nazarene;officiating. William E.(Willie;the Whip) Ross;47;of Newark;Calif.;formerly of Pricedale;died suddenly in his home on Tuesday;Dec.5;1989. An outstanding basketbell player at Rostraver High School;Mr.Ross won three section scoring titles and finished with a school record 1;480 points in 72 games for and impressive 20.6 average. Graduating high school in 1961;he moved on to Duquesne University in Pittsburgh where he ended his collegiate career in 1965;scoring 1;014 points to place him fifth on Duquesne’s all-time scoring list at the time. Mr.Ross was born March 9;1942;a son of the late Eugene Ross and Laurice Ross Banks;who survives and resides in Pricedale. He was employed as a special manager of operating room services at Stanford University Medical Center. Mr.Ross graduated from Duquesne University in 1965 with a bachelor of science degree in education. As a youth;he attended Antioch Baptist Church Sunday School in Belle Vernon. He was a member of the ROTC and the Duquesne University Alumni Association. Surviving in addition to his mother;are two daughters;Jennifer Ross of Newark;Calif.;and Tamala Ross of Jamaica;N.Y.;five brothers;Richard and Robert Ross;both of Rochester;N.Y.;and James;Maurice and David Ross;all of Ft.Washington;Md.;two sisters;Donna Jean Ross of Pricedale and Barbara Louise Ross of Ft.Washington;Md.;his maternal grandparents;James and Ophelia Alexander of Brighton;Ala.;a step-father;Edward J.Banks;of Pricedale;aunts;uncles;nieces and nephews;and a dear friend;Leanna Hebert.
