He was born March 14;1909;in Rostraver Township;the son of the late Michael and Katherine Sedlacek Surovchak. A salesman;he sold some of the very first Maytag washers in Monessen during the middle 1920s. He started as a salesman for Potter McCune Co.in Monessen in 1930;having served mom & pop stores carrying 200-900 grocery items. He retired in 1974 after introducing several thousand new items to supermarkets in seven counties. Mr.Surovchak was a member of St.Paul Lutheran Church;Monessen;where he had held many positions through the years;including Sunday School superintendent;secretary of the church council;usher and many other committees. He was also a member of the Monessen AARP;where he was a charter member and one of the founders. He belonged to many other organizations and had been an avid bowler on many championship teams. In addition to his parents;he was preceded in death by his first wife;Mary Matyas Surovchak;a son;William Surovchak;four brothers;Paul;Andrew;Emil and Jerry;and two sisters;Katherine Surovchak and Anna Surovchak Polacek. He was born Oct.5;1912;in Pricedale;a son of the late Michael and Anna Marena Schuresko. In addition to his parents;he was preceded in death by his wife;Gena Pupilli Schuresko;April 25;1986;and by a brother;Melro Schuresko. A lifelong resident of the Belle Vernon area;Mr.Schuresko was a member of St.Sebastian Roman Catholic Church and Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659.
