Sylvester Shorter;86;of Pricedale;went home to be with the Lord on Friday;Nov.12;1999;while in the Greenery Nursing Home;Canonsburg. He was born July 29;1913;in Pricedale;a son of the late Samuel and Nettie Shorter. Mr.Shorter was previously employed for 37 years at Page Wire Mill;and for 15 years with Rostraver Township. In addition to his parents;he was preceded in death by his wife;Thomasina Davis Shorter in 1979. Survivors include two daughters;Judith Banks of Columbia;S.C.;and Linda Johnson of Monessen;five sons;Richard of Montclair;Calif.;Byron of Clinton;Md.;James of Richmond;Calif.;Robert of Virginia Beach;Va.;and Erik of Sacramento;Calif;14 grandchildren;two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Antioch Baptist Church;Henry Street;Belle Vernon;on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will also be held at Antioch Baptist Church;on Wednesday;Nov.17;at 1 p.m.;with the Rev.Clifford Carter;pastor;officiating. Independence Regional Health
Center.
Mrs. Winship was born Nov.
8; 1923; in Monessen and had
lived in Independence since
1970.
She was employed by Detray
Plating Company and worked
at the RLDS Center Stake. She
was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter Day Saints; the American Business Women’s Association and the Order of Eastern
Star.
She was preceded in death by
her husband Robert H. Winship
Jr. in 1974.
Survivors include a sister;
Lillian M. Plevel; California;
one brother; Jack Girardin of
Monongahela and numerous
nieces and nephews in Missouri
and Pennsylvania.
A memorial service will be
held Saturday; Sept. 25; at 10
a.m. at the Reorganized Church
of Latter Day Saints in Charleroi. Mrs. Winship was cremated and will be buried in
Belle Vernon. Contributions are

Ruth A.Steen;87;of Pasadena;Calif.;formerly of Belle Vernon;died Friday;Aug.20;1999;in North Arundel Hospital;Glen Burnie;Md. She was born April 30;1912;a daughter of the late Albert L.and Fannie Scott Romer. She was a member of St.Sebastian Roman Catholic Church;Belle Vernon;and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court 1522. She was a registered nurse for many years for the former Combustion-Engineering and Pittsburgh Steel companies. She had lived on Vernon Street in Belle Vernon until 1973. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law;Albert and Joy Steen of Pasadena;Calif.;two grandchildren;Brent Steen and Cynthia Wescott;and two great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents;she was preceded in death by her husband;William (Bud) Steen in 1973;and one sister;Helen Redigan in 1968. She was born Dec.7;1990;in Carroll Township;a daughter of Randall Sullenberger of Monessen and Deneen Marie Minardi of Monessen. Aubrey was a resident of Monessen;where she was a member of the United Methodist Church. She would have entered the third grade at Monessen Elementary Center. She was a member of the Monessen Youth Soccer League;Monessen Brownie Troop 4051 and was a gymnastic student at B.G.School of Gymnastics. Survivors;in addition to her parents;include her brother;Blaine Patrick Sullenberger of Monessen;her maternal grandmother;Betty Jane Minardi of Monessen;and her paternal grandparents;Jack and Jean Haggerty Sullenberger of Monessen.
