Sgt.John M.Balaska;age 23 years;son of Mr.and Mrs.John Balaska;Sr.;of 12 James street;Belle Vernon;died in St.Lo;France;June 18;1944. His body will arrive Friday morning;and friends will be received at the Melenyzer Funeral Home. Services will be held there Sunday;February 8;1948;at 2:30 o’clock. Rev.I.E.Vangor;pastor of the St.Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church of Uniontown will have charge;and interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659 will have charge of military rites. Chas.L.and Edwin Melenyzer are the funeral directors.

The body of Pvt.Raymond H.Borne;26th Infantry;who was killed in Acchen;Germany;Nov.29;1944;arrived in Charleroi Monday morning;Dec.15;1947; at 10:00 a.m. from the U.S.Army Distribution Depot;and will be buried at private interment on Wednesday Dec.17;1947;at 10 a.m.in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The remains were taken directly to the Melenyzer Funeral Home. On Tuesday the remains will be taken to the First Christian Church;Charleroi;at 11 a.m.;where respects may be paid from that time until 9 p.m. Pvt. Borne was the son of Bessie Borne and the late Marshall Borne of 311 Crest Ave. Private Borne went into the service February 19;1944 and has been overseas only since the latter part of September. He was born December 7;1923 and was just a few days under 21 years of age when he was killed. Before entering the service he worked in the Blow Shop of the Corning Glass Works. Surviving besides his mother is one sister;Mrs.Stephen (Margaret) Bagay of Charleroi;three brothers;Norman;at home;Private Marshall Borne;U.S.A.;somewhere in England;and Pfc.Robert Borne;U.S.M.C.;somewhere in the South Pacific.
