Chauncey A. Freeland; 72; of Fallowfield Township; formerly of Belle Vernon; died peacefully at home on Thursday; May 9; 2002. He was born Oct. 23; 1929; in Nutter Fort; W.Va.; a son of the late Andrew and Gladys McCoy Freeland. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Charleroi; a 50-year member of the F&AM Lodge 643 of Belle Vernon and a social member of Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659. An avid golfer; he was a past president and current member of the Mon Valley Country Club. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from West Virginia University. He retired from Wetterau Grocery Company in Belle Vernon in 1984; where he was vice president of Foodland International. Chauncey is survived by his wife of 48 years; Barbara; one daughter; Rebecca Freeland of Pittsburgh; one son and daughter-in-law; Michael and Holly Freeland of Harpers Ferry; W.Va.; four grandchildren; Sarah; Michael; Joseph; and Lexy; three sisters; Barbara Baker and Margaret Palma; both of Bridgeport; W.Va.; and Karen Buss of Winston-Salem; N.C.; three brothers; Larry McCoy of West Milford; W.Va.; David McCoy of Wellsville; Ohio; and Mark McCoy of Ridgeley; W.Va. Friends will be received Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the FERGUSON FUNERAL HOME INC.; A Golden Rule Member Firm; 700 Broad Ave.; Belle Vernon. Funeral services will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home with the Rev. Ed Bailey officiating. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Heart Association. Belle Vernon F&AM Lodge 643 will meet Sunday at 7 p.m. in the funeral home for services.
