Mrs.Olga Sands;69;of Fayette City R.D.1 died Thursday;April 7;1949;at 2:25 p.m.in the Charleroi-Monessen hospital. She was born in Finland and was a member of St.Luke’s Lutheran Church in Monessen. She was preceded in death by a son Sgt.David Sands;who was killed in action in Germany on Nov.22;1944. She is survived by her husband;Oscar Sands;two sons;Leon and Oscar;Jr.;of Fayette City;four daughters;Mrs.John Macket;of Fayette City;R.D.;Mrs.Felix Daniels;of Belle Vernon;R.D.2;Jane;at home and Mrs.B.M.Culpepper of Portsmouth;Va. Friends are being received at the McCrory Funeral Home in Fayette City and on Monday;April 11;at 11 a.m.the body will be brought to the St.Luke’s Finnish Lutheran Church in Monessen;where services will be held at 2 p.m.in charge of Rev.Leppa Luoto of New Castle. She was born in Belle Vernon; January
17; 1866; the daughter of Isaac
and Josephine Payne Batch. She came
to Charleroi fifty years ago from
Belle Vernon and was a member of
St. James A. M. E. Church. She was a
life member of the Household of
Ruth.
She is survived by two sons; Edmund
at home and Kenneth R. Simpson
of Harrisburg; three daughters;
Nina L. Stokes at home; Mrs. Fred
McMillen of Cleveland; Ohio; and
Mrs. Jesus Ramirez of Monessen;
eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the Lawrence B.Frye Funeral Home. Services will be held there Friday;February 18;1949;at 2 p.m.;in charge of Rev.Joseph Stormes. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Lawrence B.Frye is the funeral director.

Mrs.Harriet A.Sneed of 22 Carson street;Speers;died suddenly at her home of a heart attack;Monday;October 11;1948;at 12:30 p.m. She was born August 17;1872;in New England;Pa.;the daughter of George and Helen Crompton Hilton. She came to Speers fifty years ago from New England;and was a memeber of the Speers Methodist Church;the Ladies Aid Society of Speers;and the Home and Hospital Club of Speers. Mrs.Josephine Smith;235 Knox avenue;died Thursday evening;September 23;1948;at 8:15 p.m.while visiting at the home of her niece;Mrs.Ralph Litzinger;in Johnstown;Pa. Mrs.Smith was a pioneer resident of Monessen;having resided here the past 50 years. She was born in Johnstown. Her husband;Charles Smith;preceded her in death in 1930. Surviving are the following children;Robert;Mrs.Rose McDermott;William and Harry;all of Monessen;and Mrs.Claire Ulmer of Springdale. Five grandchildren also survive;along with a sister;Mrs.Emmett McNally and two brothers;Henry and Robert Coleman;all of Johnstown. Friends will be received at the Check Home for Funerals until Monday;September 27;when funeral services will be held at 9:30 o’clock followed by additional rites at St.Leonard’s Roman Catholic Church in charge of Rev.Owen J.Kirby.
