Roland P/ (Pee Wee) Basile;80; of Koslasky Drive;Belle Vernon;died Sunday;Sept.30;2001;in Mon Valley Hospital. A son of the late Joseph and Sarah Roger Basile;he was born in Belle Vernon on July 1;1921. He was a member of Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church of Fayette City;the Belle Vernon VFW Post 699 and was the chairman of the credit committee of the Mon Valley Community Federal Credit Union. He was very active in the community where he had served as a Washington Township supervisor and was police superintendent. He was inducted into the Belle Vernon Aea Football Hall of Fame in 2000 and was the chairman of the food bank for 13 years. Mr. Basile retired from the industrial relations
department at the Allenport
plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh
Steel in 1978. He was a U.S.
Navy veteran of World War II;
having served from 1942 to
1945 on the U.S.S. Terror and
the U.S.S. Velocity. Survivors
include his wife of 56 years;
Nellie Malinowsky Basile; a
son and daughter-in-law;
Roland Paul and Donna Basile
Jr. of Waterboro; Maine; four
daughters and two sons-in-law;Charmel and Gary Makovsky
of Rostraver Township; Janis
Basile of Denver; Colo.; Mary
Frances and Bill Harvey; Peggy
Basile; a brother and sister-inlaw; Ross and Anna Mae Basile;
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. In addition to
his parents; he was preceded in
death by four brothers; James;
Anthony; Robert and Samuel
Basile; and four sisters; Rose
Greco; Carrie Flora; Margaret
Harrison and Mary Mate. Roland was a kind; giving and
caring gentleman who touched
the lives and hearts of all who
knew him. He will be sadly
missed by his family and

Leonard McAlpin as celebrant.
Interment will follow in Belle
Vernon Cemetery. A wake service will be held in the funeral
home on Tuesday at 3 p.m. and
VFW Post 699 will hold services at 7 p.m.on Tuesday.

A Belle Vernon sailor lost his life on the bomb-torn USS Franklin. He was Aviation Ordnanceman Third Class Paul Grata;27;husband of Mrs.Joan Netspoon Grata of Broad Avenue;Belle Vernon. Mrs.Grata received a telegram on April 6;stating her husband had been killed in action and buried at sea with full military honors. A/O Grata had been in service 17 months and overseas for 11 months. Besides hie wife;he is survived by a young son;Paul;Jr.;his parents;Mr.and Mrs.William Grata of Portage;four sisters;Mary;Mildred;Lucy and Helen. Two brothers also survive;Sgt.Stanley in Germany and Pvt.Joseph in Italy. The family formerly resided in Monessen.
