Norris Turner of Belle Vernon was born on Jan. 3; 1927; in Detroit; Mich.; to the late James Isaac and Louise Turner; parents of 10 children. He departed this life on Tuesday; Jan. 8; 2002; in his home at the Belle Vernon Apartments. Mr. Turner led a full and active life. He was raised in Arnold City and enlisted in the U.S. Armed Forces and served for 20 years in many capacities. He was a Korean War veteran. Norris Turner settled in Detroit; Mich.; where he worked at Ford Motor Company from 1963 to 1970. When he returned to Pennsylvania; he became active and dedicated to the NAACP and served as president of the Mon Valley Branch in 1992 until his death. Mr. Turner also was president of the Antioch Bowling League for many years; and he served as president of the Belle Vernon Apartments Tenants Association as well. Norris Turner was preceded in death by his parents; sisters; Juanita; Patty and Alice; and brothers; Junior and Ronny; all of Toledo; Ohio. Norris Turner and his first wife; Geneva Dupree; had three children; Linda Mounds of Harrisburg; Pa.; Jacalyn Mills of Belle Vernon; and Donna Mills of Monessen. Mr. Turner and his second wife; Leetha Smith; had two children; the late Stanford Turner and Regina Jackson and also Christina Turner; all of Detroit; Mich. Norris Turner is survived by four daughters; and two sisters; Cleor Dixon and Jeanette Lemley of Detroit; Mich. Louis W. (Rog) Bilski; 79; of Arnold City; Belle Vernon; died Tuesday; Jan. 8; 2002; in Mon Valley Hospital; Carroll Township. Born Feb. 22; 1922; in Washington Township; he was a son of the late Louis Rog and Anna Rog Bilski and Joseph Bilski Sr. He was a member of Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church in Fayette City; PNA Lodge 976 of Arno1d City; and Brightwell Daugherty American Legion Post 484; Fayette City. He was a veteran of World War II; having served in the U.S. Army. He was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Co.; Monessen plant. In addition to his parents; he was predeceased by an infant sister; Florence; and four brothers; George; Clement; Joseph Jr. and John. Born Jan. 4; 1929; in Gibsonton; she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Winnifred James Lancaster. Mrs. Varega was a resident of Monongahela for the past five years; having previously resided in North Belle Vernon for 42 years. She was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Monessen. Mrs. Varega was retired from the Belle Vernon Area School District; where she worked as a cafeteria cook and was a member and past president of the former Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659 Ladies Auxiliary. She had resided most of her adult life in Belle Vernon and was a member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church of Masontown. A seamstress and beautician; she owned and operated Mildred’s Beauty Shop in Fairhope from 1960 to 1997. Mr. Burton was Protestant by faith. He retired from the Atlas Merchandising Co. where he was general manager. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. She was a member of Bethany Bible Fellowship of Charleroi and had lived in Belle Vernon most of her life. She retired in 1982 after 15 years with the former Miller’s Department Store of Charleroi. She was retired from the Corning Glass Works Charleroi Plant.
