Carol Jean (Mood) Woodson; 53; of Tampa; Fla.; died Sunday; Feb. 10; 2002; in her home; after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born Oct. 11; 1948; in Lock Four. She was a 1966 graduate of Rostraver High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree from West Virginia University and a master’s degree from California University of Pennsylvania. She taught in the Hillsborough County School District for over 20 years. She helped write and implement the school uniform policy for Hunter’s Green Elementary School; where she taught. She also chaired the blue ribbon committee; which won a countywide award in 2001. She won the Eddie Award for Perseverance for Hillsborough County in 2001; and teacher of the year award for Hunter’s Green Elementary school for 2002-03. Survivors include her longtime companion; Kelvin L. Melton; her father and step-mother; Carl and Linda Mood of Fayette City; one daughter; Jill Woodson and two grandsons; all of Tampa; one son; Thomas Woodson and one granddaughter; all of Fayette City; two step-sisters; Deborah Follee of Monongahela; and Dana Morrison of Belle Vernon; and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her mother; Emma Jean Mood in 1976. A memorial service was held in her honor at Hunter’s Green Elementary School in Tampa on Wednesday; Feb. 13. The family suggest memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.

Nellie A. Gerein; 95; of North Charleroi; died Thursday; Feb. 21; 2002; in the emergency room at Mon Valley Hospital. She was born Sept. 21; 1906; in Forward Township; the daughter of the late Peter and Blanche Polacci Petrucci. She was a member of Mary; Mother of the Church Parish of Charleroi; the Ladies Auxiliary of the Lock 4 Fire Department; and she was formerly a judge of elections for 50 years in North Charleroi. Mrs. Gerein was employed in the gift shop of the former Charleroi-Monessen Hospital. Jack D. Hackenson; 79; of Scott Street; Speers Hill; died Thursday; Feb. 14; 2002; at 6:40 p.m. at his residence. Born Oct. 6; 1922; in Pittsburgh; he was the son of the late Harry and Elvina Whiteman Hackenson. Mr. Hackenson was a resident of Speers Hill for the past 12 years and was retired from Pittsburgh Gage; where he worked in industrial sales. He was a veteran of World War II; having served in the U.S. Navy. He is survived by his wife; Doris Britton Hackenson; to whom he was married 61 years; a son and daughter-in-law; Jack E. and Maria Hackenson of Wake Forest; N.C.; a daughter and son-in-law; Linda and Richard Venis of Alpharetta; Ga.; four grandchildren; Troy and Todd Venis; Sheri Woods and Kelli Greer; and six great-grandchildren.
