Carolyn E. Betty Grazzini Peters; 77; of Sampson Street (Seldom Seen); Belle Vernon; died Saturday; April 20; 2002; at 2:45 a.m. at West Malden Manor; Charleroi. Born Aug. 20; 1924; in Donora; she was the daughter of Gladys Mullard Grazzini Pascoe; who survives and resides in McMurray; and the late Cardi Grazzini. Mrs. Peters was a resident of Belle Vernon for the past 55 years; was a graduate of Marion High School with the Class of 1942; and was a member of Community of Christ (formerly known as the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints) in Fayette City; where she was actively involved in church activities and loved to bake for various church functions. She was retired from Union Cleaners in North Belle Vernon; where she worked as a clerk. Mrs. Peters had previously worked for the Bell System in Lancaster. She had also cared for her ailing mother for many years. In addition to her mother; she is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law; Charles W. Jr. and Christine Peters of Circle City; Ariz.; Donald R. and Jean Peters of Huntington Beach; Calif.; and David A. and Judi Peters of Belle Vernon; one brother and sister-in-law; Robert and Marie Grazzini of Lower Burrell; one sister and brother-in-law; Jeanine and Matt Blasick of Carroll Township; and six grandchildren; Carolyn; Thomas; David; Michael; Dawn and Wendi. Walter Praskavich; 75; of Cherry Lane; Coal Center; died Saturday; April 20; 2002; at 8:12 a.m. at Jefferson Regional Health System; Jefferson Borough. Born Oct. 30; 1926; in North Belle Vernon; he was the son of the late Wassil and Katherine Yodlowsky Praskavich. Mr. Praskavich was a resident of the Mon Valley for the past 45 years; having previously resided in New York. He retired from TWA in 1985; where he worked in the Ramp Service Department. He was a veteran of World War II; having served in the U.S. Army; and was a member of Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659; Long Branch Grange; and the Perry Township and Fayette City travel clubs. Mr. Chabalka was a general agent for Paul Revere; Chubb; and United Life Insurance companies. He also worked as a job developer with the Private Industry Council for several years. Having served with the U.S. Army Air Corps; he was a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion in Monessen and Belle Vernon VFW. Mr. Adams was a member of Rehoboth Presbyterian Church and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He owned and operated the Puritan Insurance Agency in Belle Vernon for many years prior to his retirement in 1988. Formerly of Bentleyville; he had resided in Belle Vernon for the past 13 years. Donn H. Smith; 69; of Monongahela (Forward Township); died Saturday; April 13; 2002; in Mon Valley Hospital. He was born Dec. 21; 1932; in Monessen; a son of the late Edward L. and Thelma Lochrie. He first worked at Pittsburgh Steel in Monessen as a chemist and then for 25 years did research for the Department of Energy; retiring in 1989. He was a 1950 graduate of Monessen High School and then attended California University of Pennsylvania. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church; Monongahela; and was currently recording secretary for the Knights of Columbus; and was very active in operating the monthly bingo at Autumn Arbor Estates in Monongahela. He was also very active working in the St. Vincent DePaul store in Monessen. He was a current officer and past exalted ruler of the Donora Elks Lodge. He was a member of the Senior Center in Charleroi and was also active in operating its bingo. He was a former member of the VFW in Monessen. Survivors include his wife of 46 years; Frances L. James M. Stedman; 87; of Longwood; Fla.; died Friday; Nov. 9; 2001; following a lengthy illness. Mr. Stedman was born in Nelsonville; Ohio; and was a longtime resident of Charleroi and Speers Hill. He retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel; Allenport plant; in 1977; and moved to Florida in 1994. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He had belonged to the American Legion; the Elks Lodge; and was an active member of St. Mary’s Episcopa1 Church in Charleroi.
