Mayor Patricia Ann Angelo; 62; of North Belle Vernon; died Saturday; Feb. 21; 2004; at 8:30 p.m. in Mon Valley Hospital; Carroll Township. Born Aug. 18; 1941; in Monongahela; she was the daughter of Millie Poli Angelo; who survives and resides in North Belle Vernon; and the late Patsy Angelo. Ms. Angelo was retired from the Belle Vernon Area School District at Marion Elementary School; where she taught as a librarian teacher. She was a graduate of Bellmar High School Class of 1959; California University Class of 1962 with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education and library science. Ms. Angelo taught for the Belle Vernon Area School District for 35 years as a teacher and teacher librarian until retiring in 1997. She was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church of Belle Vernon; where she served on the pastoral council. Ms. Angelo also was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas; Belle Vernon Court 1522; a past president of the Catholic Women’s College Club; and a member of the DCCW; PSEA and NEA. She was North Belle Vernon Borough’s first woman to serve on council and was elected Mayor of North Belle Vernon in 1992. She belonged to the Westmoreland County Borough and Westmoreland County Mayor associations; served as a board member for the North Belle Vernon Public Library; was a representative to the Belle Vernon Municipal Water Authority and member of MATCH at Mon Valley Hospital. Ms. Angelo also served as treasurer for the former Belle Vernon Business and Professional Association; donated her time as a greeter at Mon Valley Hospital and delivered Meals on Wheels in the Belle Vernon area. In addition to her mother; she is survived by one brother and sister-in-law; Stephen and Regina Angelo of Rostraver Township; one niece; Kristen Cooney and husband Kevin of Greensburg; and one great-nephew; Evan Cooney. Albert Louis Pee Wee Hewitt; 50; of Charleroi; died in the emergency room at Monongahela Valley Hospital on Saturday; Feb. 21; 2004. He was born in North Charleroi on Nov. 9; 1953; a son Velma Warman Hewitt; who survives and resides in Point Marion; and the late Albert Lee King Tut Hewitt. He was Protestant by faith. Mr. Hewitt was a veteran of the Vietnam War; having served with the U.S. Marine Corps for two years. He enlisted in the U.S. Army; where he spent 12 years as a staff sergeant; and eight years with the U.S. Army Reserves; retiring with 20 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion and VFW; both in Charleroi; and was employed by Matt Canestrale Construction of Monongahela. James Edward Chapman; 48; of Charleroi; died Sunday; Feb. 15; 2004; at his home after a short illness. He was born in Barberton; Ohio; on June 16; 1955; the son of the late Ralph Gail Chapman and Geraldine Rumbaugh Chapman. He was Protestant by faith and retired as a cook from Sonny’s in Arnold City; Belle Vernon. Mr. Chapman was a veteran of the Vietnam War as a member of the U.S. Air Force. He also was a member of the Charleroi VFW Post. Mr. Chapman attended Belle Vernon Area High School and received his GED from the U.S. Air Force. Frank A. Worry; 83; of Arnold City; Belle Vernon; passed away peacefully with loved ones at his side on Saturday; Feb. 14; 2004; in Monongahela Valley Hospital. He was born in Arnold City (Washington Township) on Dec. 3; 1920; a son of the late Michael and Helen Kroskie Worry. He was Catholic by faith. Mr. Worry was a veteran of World War II and retired coal miner. He also owned and operated Worry’s Nursery for over 50 years. Mr. Worry was a member of the American Nurseryman Association. GEORGE B. BRONSON
George B. Bronson passed away quietly in his sleep on Feb. 8; 2004. He had been treated for Alzheimer’s and lived with his son David in Connecticut since the spring of 2000. Since October of 2003; George had been cared for at the Bayview Nursing Home in Waterford; Conn.; in the final stages of Alzheimer’s. George was born in Lowber on Sept. 22; 1925; to George Bronson and Gertrude Blanche Smith Bronson. After graduating from high school; George enlisted in the U.S. Navy; where he was trained as an electrician. While serving in the U.S. Navy; George served aboard the USS Merimack (oil tanker) where he received the Victory Medal; American Theatre Medal; European Theatre Medal; Asiatic Pacific Medal 5 Stars; Philippine Liberation Ribbon 1 Star and three Letters of Commendation. Honorably discharged as an Electrician’s mate 2nd class; he worked as an electrician and draftsman at the Fisher Body plant where he retired after 36 years. George was a member of Gummert Lodge No. 252 in Fayette City; where he was a past master in 1965. He married Helen Laverne Dunlop Bronson on Nov. 17; 1946. They had two children; David and Colleen. Helen passed away Jan. 18; 1998. Surviving family members are David and Timi McCready Bronson; daughter; Colleen Resh of Jefferson Borough; granddaughters; Kerrey Lynn Bronson and Meghan Baker. George has two surviving sisters; Amy Barber and husband Clyde of Lowber; Fayette City; and LaVerna Gatalo and husband Nate of Cincinnati; Ohio.
