Eugene A. Gosseaux; 78; of Avon Park; Fla.; formerly of Belle Vernon; died Saturday; Dec. 25; 2004; at Highland Regional Medical Center in Florida. Born Jan. 6; 1926; in Grindstone; he was the son of the late Jules and Celina Oppenbrier Gosseaux. He was a former member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church in Belle Vernon; and a graduate of Brownsville High School; class of 1943. Mr. Gosseaux was a veteran of World War II; having served with the U.S. Navy. He retired Oct. 2; 1982; from Bell Telephone with 38 years of service before retiring to Sebring/Avon Park; Fla.; in 1990. He was a member of the Bell of PA Telephone Pioneers and a member and past commander of Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659. Richard Radock; 83; of Belle Vernon; died Tuesday; Dec. 21; 2004; in Mon Valley Hospital. A son of the late Nicholas and Pauline Radich Radock; he was born in Belle Vernon on Feb. 4; 1921. Mr. Radock was a member of the Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659 and VFW Post 699. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon; he had worked for the Pittsburgh Steel Company and taught diesel mechanics at Westmoreland County Community College for 19 years. Mr. Radock served during World War II with the U.S. Army; 80th Division and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Barry W. Wergin; 50; of Charleroi; died Saturday; Dec. 18; 2004; in Mon Valley Hospital. He was born Sept. 10; 1954; in North Charleroi; a son of the late Russell and Catherine Wilkinson Wergin. He was a Vietnam veteran; serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Wergin was a security officer at Koppers Industries in Monessen. MICHAEL RADOCK
Michael Radock; 87; of Ann Arbor; Mich.; died Wednesday; Dec. 15; 2004 in Glacier Hills Nursing Center; Ann Arbor. A son of the late Nicholas and Pauline Radish Radock; he was born July 17; 1917 in Belle Vernon. In 1942; he graduated magna cum laude from Westminster College in New Wilmington. He held a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University with further graduate study at Case Western University. He worked for various newspapers in the Pittsburgh/western Pennsylvania area; and radio news in Canton; Ohio. He later served on the faculties of Westminster College; Kent State University and the University of Wyoming. For nine years; he was on the corporate public relations staff at Ford Motor Company’s World Headquarters in Dearborn; Mich. From 1961-1981 he was vice president for university relations and professor of journalism at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. After retiring from Michigan in 1981; he was senior vice president for university relations and development and a professor of journalism at the University of Southern California. From 1983-1993; he was vice president for resource development at the Aspen Institute in New York City and advisor to the president at the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation in Flint; Mich. He was appointed by President Gerald Ford to the Board of Foreign Scholarships; which supervises the Fulbright Exchange Program. He also served as chairman of the White House Initiative Science and Technology Advisory Committee on Historically Black Colleges and Universities. He was a trustee of the Michigan Historical Center Foundation; the Ann Arbor Area Community Foundation and the Council for Advancement and Support of Education. In 1980; he received the Distinguished Service Award for leadership in institutional advancement for minority colleges and universities. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his wife; Helen Hower Radock; on April 27; 2001. They were married Sept. 2; 1944. Together they enjoyed traveling on every continent and participated actively in many local arts and civic organizations. They were members of the First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor. Also preceding him in death were two brothers; Joseph Moe Radock and George Radock. JOSEPH ( MOE ) RADOCK
Joseph Moe Radock; 85; of Belle Vernon; died Wednesday; Dec. 15; 2004; in Jefferson Regional Medical Center. A son of the late Nicholas and Pauline Radish Radock; he was born in Belle Vernon on Feb. 24; 1919. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon; Mr. Radock was a member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church of Masontown. He graduated from Belle Vernon High School with the class of 1937. Mr. Radock was a World War II veteran serving in the Ordinance Section of the 5th Army from April 28; 1941; to Oct. 12; 1945; achieving the rank of Tech 4 Sergeant in the European theater of Africa and Italy. He was a member of Belle Vernon VFW Post 699 and American Legion Post 945 of Wormleysburg. Mr. Radock studied radio and television broadcasting at Keystone Electronics School and Radio Television Institute in Philadelphia and the National Radio School in Cleveland. He was a transmitter engineer at WHJB in Greensburg and WJAS in Pittsburgh. He later transferred to WDTV of the Dumont Television Network; which later became KDKA-TV. One of the TV pioneers; he was with KDKA-TV until his retirement in 1984 when he was the technical director in TV master control. Survivors include two sisters; Sophia Cutter of Belle Vernon and Paulette Radock; with whom he made his home; four brothers; Michael Radock of Ann Arbor; Mich. (who died Wednesday evening; Dec. 15; 2004; Richard Radock of Belle Vernon; Stephen Radock of Baltimore; Md.; and Charles Radock of Wexford; and numerous nieces; nephews and cousins.
