A son of the late Samuel E. and Alma Paulson West; he was born in Martins Ferry; W.Va.; on March 12; 1922. Until his recent illness; he had resided in Charleroi since 1975. He retired in 1982 from the Edgar Thompson Plant of U.S. Steel; where he was a craneman. A U.S. Army; World War II veteran; he was a life member of the Charleroi American Legion; Post 22; VFW Post 699; the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association; the 25th Infantry Division Association; and a life member and past commander of VFW Post 167. Oliver also was a member of the Charleroi Sportsman’s Association; the Belgium Club and the Perryopolis VFW. Herbert H. Mollard Jr.; 85; of Washington Township; died Sunday; April 13; 2003 in Mon Valley Hospital. A son of the late Herbert and Amelia Jolley Mollard; he was born in Fairhope (Belle Vernon) on March 23; 1918. Mr. Mollard was a member of the Fayette City Christian Church where he had been an elder for over 30 years and was currently an elder emeritus. As a hobby; he enjoyed flying remote controlled airplanes in Rostraver Township. A lifelong resident of Washington Township; he had worked for 10 years as a coal miner and retired from Corning Glass after 34 years. Survivors include his wife of 63 years; Ethel Scanlon Mollard; and two sisters; Martha Houtz of Alabama and Doris Gerard of Charleroi. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by one brother and sister; John Mollard and Amelia McCamic. There will be no public visitation. He was working with a new development called Crystal Springs in Uniontown and with Century 21 Frontier Realty. George was a member of the National and Pennsylvania Board of Realtors. Johanna Tordy Semancik; of Belle Vernon (Rostraver Twp.); passed away Wednesday at 7:12 pm; August 9; 2006 at the age of 86 with family at her side at Sphar’s Personal Care Home; Belle Vernon.
Born March 20; 1920 in Pricedale; PA she was the daughter of the late Julia Puskaus and Joesph Tordy operators of a thriving grocery store until its demise during the great depression.
She was married to her beloved husband Andrew for 58 years until his passing in 1997. A lifelong member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church; Belle Vernon; Johanna was active in the Ladies Guild and was a past Grand Regent of the former Catholic Daughters of the Americas Belle Vernon Court 1522. She was one of the founding members of the Hungarian Ladies Auxillary where she and several other members performed authentic Hungarian folk dances in native costumes. Her greatest treasure in life; she always said; was her loving family all of which she was most proud.
