Marilyn C. Swantek; 55; of Belle Vernon; passed away Tuesday; Aug. 7; 2007; in her home after an illness of three years. She was born in North Charleroi on Oct. 10; 1951; a daughter of Betty Louise Moore Turcaso; who survives and resides in Washington; Pa.; and the late James Martino. Marilyn was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church; the Annita Garibaldi Society; the Women’s Social Club; the Valley Garden Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution; where she had been a chaplain and registrar. She; along with her husband; had been active in the Belle Vernon Area Football and Cheerleaders Association for a number of years and had owned and operated Colonial Ceramics in Belle Vernon from 1975 until 1988. Formerly of Charleroi; she had resided in Belle Vernon for the past 36 years and had been employed by Dr. Mary Ducato for 14 years until her retirement in 2002. FLOYD LEE GILES
Floyd Lee Giles; 79; of Charleroi (Mapleview); died Wednesday; July 25; 2007; in Mon Valley Hospital. He was born Nov. 6; 1927; in Roscoe; the son of the late Henry W. and Blanche Metcalfe Giles. Floyd was a member of Mary; Mother of the Church Parish and a 58-year member of Elks Lodge No. 494; both in Charleroi; the Mon Valley Country Club; the Pittsburgh Symphony Society and the PGA. A 1945 graduate of Charleroi High School; he also was a member of the Reunion Committee. Floyd was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel; Monessen plant and prior to that was the quality control supervisor at the Charleroi plant of Corning Glass. An avid golfer and bowler; he was captain in several leagues and golfed at all the famous courses; including Pebble Beach and Greenbrier. Floyd also was a champion duck pin bowler in several traveling leagues. He enjoyed traveling; especially to London via the SST Concorde and the Queen Elizabeth II; where he walked among his heritage. Floyd also was a professional gambler; winning many casino tournaments nationwide. Well know for his high IQ; he loved English; history and classical music; especially Mozart. Surviving are his wife and sweetheart since grade school; Eunice Kendrick Giles; and several cousins. Friends will be received in the CARL J.
