Surrounded by her daughters and extended family members; Mary M. Horvat of Woodstock; N.Y.; died at home on July 23; 2009; following a brief illness. She was 77. Arriving in Woodstock in 2007 to live with her daughter; Nancy Smith and Donald Allen; she quickly became a beloved member of the Woodstock community. Survived also by her daughter; Mary Jo Horvat; of Wildwood Crest; N.J.; she is also remembered as a wonderful grandmother to Kristen Smith; of Beverly Hills; Fla. and Patrick Smith; of Woodstock. Hers was a life well-lived; as a sister; wife; mother; grandmother and friend. Predeceased by her husband; Joseph F. Horvat in 2001; theirs was a marriage that spanned 49 years. As a resident of Charleroi; she grew up in a family of nine children and is predeceased by four brothers and three sisters. Her sister; Julie Schwartz; of Las Vegas; Nev.; survives her. Mrs. Horvat also leaves behind her close friends Beverly Spotts; of Monessen; Eleanor Stanish; of Charleroi; and former son-in-law Bill Smith; of Kingston; N.Y. She is also survived by a large number of nieces and nephews. Known and much loved for her cooking; sense of humor; her love of animals and a strong belief in family; Mrs. Horvat was a parishioner at the Mary Mother of the Church in Charleroi. She was interred at the Belle Vernon Cemetery in Belle Vernon. Donations may be sent to Hospice or the ASPCA.

Charles Homanics; Jr.; 91 of Fayette City; Pa; died Tuesday; May 18; 2010 in Uniontown Hospital.
He was born September 5; 1918 in Fayette City; Pa.; Son of the late Charles Homanics and the late Anna Lazor Homanics. He was a member of Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church; Belle Vernon. Charles was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel; Allenport plant. He was a US Navy veteran of WW II.
Surviving is one Son; William Homanics of Issaquah; WA; Grandson; Christopher Homanics of Issaquah; WA; Brother; David Homanics of Fayette City; Sister; Ann Knack of Issaquah ;WA.
He was preceded in death by his wife; Rose M. Coates Homanics in 2003.

Private graveside services and interment were held today in Belle Vernon Cemetery for Wilma Esther Harvey; 93; of Belle Vernon; who died Thursday; Nov. 15; 2007; in Mon Valley Hospital. A daughter of the late Thomas and Lu Lu Hepple; she was born in Pricedale (Rostraver Township) on July 15; 1914. Wilma was a long-time member of The Salvation Army in Monessen and the Ladies Home League. She had worked several years at the former Charleroi-Monessen Hospital as a nurse’s aide for babies. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law; Charles Wilford and Lucille Harvey; of Rostraver Township; and William and Josephine Harvey; of Ruffsdale; three daughters and two sons-in-law; Pearl and Ed Lyons; of North Belle Vernon; Donna Metts; of Florahome; Fla.; and Joyce and William Howard; of Bedford; Ohio; one sister; Betty Aldridge; of Charleroi; two brothers; Linden Hepple; of Pricedale; and Forrest Hepple; of North Belle Vernon; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Curtis Mitchell; 89; of North Belle Vernon; died Friday; Nov. 16; 2007; at 4:47 p.m. in Presbyterian SeniorCare; Washington; Pa. He was born April 25; 1918; in Belle Vernon; a son of the late Roy and Bertha Mae Oliphant Mitchell. He was a lifelong resident of North Belle Vernon. Mr. Mitchell was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church in Belle Vernon and was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel; Monessen plant; where he was employed as a ladle crane operator. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Mitchell was a member of Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659 and the Charleroi Archery Club. He is survived by his wife; Melba Pateri Mitchell; to whom he would have been married 64 years on Nov. 24; 2007; one daughter and son-in-law; Karen and George Magatz; of Monessen; one son and daughter-in-law; Richard and Susan Mitchell; of Belle Vernon; one brother and sister-in-law; Don and Judy Mitchell; of Belle Vernon; one sister and brother-in-law; Dorothy and Lew Farkas; of Charleroi; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
