Anna Nellie Sobek Metrosky; 90; of Belle Vernon (Washington Township); died Saturday; June 14; 2008; at 6:30 p.m. at her home. Born December 16; 1917; in Fayette City; she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Nellie Gancos Sobek. A lifelong resident of Washington Township; Mrs. Metrosky was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church; Belle Vernon; was a homemaker and was the best mother who loved to cook; crochet; loved to do crafts and was an excellent seamstress. She was also a member of the Center on the Hill. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law; Ted and Carol Metrosky of Belle Vernon; two daughters; Marlene Metrosky of Rostraver Township and Patricia Morris of Washington Township; six grandchildren: Chuck and Michael Metrosky from the state of California; Jeffrey Metrosky and wife Lisa of Greensburg; Wesley Bradley and Brooke Bradley of Rostraver Township; Michaele Fisher and husband Jeffrey of Library; two great-grandsons; Zachary Thomas Metrosky and Matthew Michael Metrosky of Greensburg; several nieces and nephews; three brothers and two sisters-in-law; Pete and Louise Sobek of Uniontown; Theodore Sobek of Perryopolis; Stanley and Joyce Sobek of Grindstone; and one sister; Stella Green of Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband; Mike Metrosky on Sept. 20; 2001; by a son; Charles Metrosky; a sister; Helen Sobek; and three brothers; Franc; Walter and Henry Sobek. A daughter of the late Anthony and Maria Pulice Gigliotti; she was born in Belle Vernon on Jan. 28; 1919. A lifelong resident of Speers Hill and Belle Vernon; she was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church and loved baking; crocheting and playing canasta. THOMAS JEROME MATTY
Thomas J. Matty; age 85; from Star Junction; Pa.; passed away July 12; 2012.
He was born November 29; 1926 in Star Junction; Pa.; the son of the late Andy and Mary Matty.
He graduated from Perryopolis High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II as an MP. He spent 14 months in the South Pacific.
After returning from the war; he briefly worked in the automotive industry before going into the construction trades. He then spent over 40 years as a brick layer until his retirement in 1990.
Thomas was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and the Slovak Catholic Sokol Assembly 25; both of Perryopolis; Pa.
He was an avid bowler who participated in multiple leagues and tournaments until his recent illness. He also enjoyed model trains.
Thomas is survived by his loving wife of 58 years; Virginia; one son Thomas D. Matty and wife; Sandy; of Derwood; Maryland; two grandchildren; Robin and Sean and two sisters; Connie Tylka and Patty Chlebowski.
In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by four brothers; Andy; Steve; Joe and John and one sister; Mary Lagoyda.
