She was formerly employed at U.S. Steel; Irvin Works and retired in 1973 from Corning Glass in Charleroi. In her younger years; Mary and her husband Joe were avid travelers. They took countless trips traveling throughout the United States; Canada and Mexico. Charles Summers; 86; of Belle Vernon (Fairhope); died Monday; March 31; 2008; in Adult Assisted Living; Dunlevy. A lifelong resident of Fairhope (Washington Township; Fayette County); he was born Wednesday; March 8; 1922; a son of the late David Summers and the late Mary Wenia Summers. He served as chief and assistant chief of the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department; served on the Washington Township Water Authority; and was a life member of the Fairhope Rod & Gun Club. A brick mason by trade; Mr. Summers belonged to and retired from Local Union No. 9 Pittsburgh; Pennsylvania Chapter 11; Washington; Pa. He contributed many hours of community service for the residents of Washington Township and the surrounding area. Mr. Chew was employed at Page Wire and Steel Plant in Monessen and retired from the maintenance department at Mon Valley Hospital.
