Walter S. ‘Sonny’ Cwiakala; 77; of Belle Vernon; died Tuesday; Jan. 20; 2009; in Meadowcrest Nursing Home; Bethel Park. A son of the late Walter and Elizabeth Ruthovsky Cwiakala; he was born in Monessen on Jan. 2; 1932. He was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church of Belle Vernon and the former Holy Spirit Church in Fayette City. Formerly of Monessen; Sonny had resided in Belle Vernon for the past 34 years; was a U.S. Army veteran and retired in 1993 from the Allenport plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Company. Survivors include his wife of 34 years; Nancy Shaffer DeSimone Cwiakala; three daughters and two sons-in-law; Susan and Frank Szczerva; of West Chester; Vicky DeSimone and friend Reggie Sepesy; of Monessen; and Patty and Tim Byrne; of Belle Vernon; one sister and brother-in-law; Patty and Richard Travalena; of Perryopolis; four grandchildren; Staci and Frankie Szczerva and Jessica and Joe (Jr.) Cervantes; a close cousin; Gloria Snyder and husband George; of Monessen; and his loving pet; Buddy. Lawrence R. Guarascio; 80; of Philadelphia; died Sunday; Feb. 21; 2010; at Pennsylvania Hospital; Philadelphia. Born Nov. 24; 1929; in Donora; he was the son of the late Peter and Pauline Pak Guarascio. A resident of Philadelphia for the past 35 years; Mr. Guarascio was a member of St. John’s Roman Catholic Church; and sang in the church choir. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Air Force. He was preceded in death by a sister; Molly Guarascio Fava. Visitation will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the LEONARD J. Helen Havadich Evans; 88; of Belle Vernon; Rostraver Township; died Monday; Dec. 3; 2012; at 6:18 a.m. at Dunlevy Gardens Nursing Home; Dunlevy. Born April 26; 1924 in Belle Vernon; she was the daughter of the late George and Anna Walkush Havadich. A resident of Rostraver Township; she was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church and owned and operated Randall’s Restaurant; Perryopolis; from 1951 to 1990. She is survived by two sisters; Irene Sturgis of Belle Vernon and Pat Lawrence of Destin; Fla. She was preceded in death by her husband; T. Randall Evans; and three brothers; George Havadich; Tom Havadich and Eddie Moxin.
