Helen Pierallini; 86; formerly of North Belle Vernon; died Tuesday; Feb. 17; 2009; in Mon Valley Hospital. A daughter of the late Charles and Mary Medvitz Ambrose; she was born in Richeyville on March 8; 1922. Helen was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church of Belle Vernon; the Friends of the Veterans; the former Women of the Moose; Chapter 1918; the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and the Golden Agers. Formerly of North Belle Vernon; she had resided at the Residence at Hilltop for the past four years. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law; Patricia and Richard Baran; of Monessen; one son and daughter-in-law; David and Maryann Pierallini; of Peters Township; two sisters; Anna Mae Bosnak; of Warren; N.J.; and Dorothy Griffin; of Norfolk; Va.; two grandchildren and their spouses; Robert and Deborah Baran; of Baldwin; and Susan and Dr. James Carroll; of Ann Arbor; Mich.; and four great-grandsons; Brendan and Joshua Carroll and Elliot and Dorian Baran. In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband; Lebert Pierallini; on March 16; 2005; three sisters; Margaret Shaw; Elizabeth Gagus and Irene Murray; and one brother; John Ambrose. Doris Callaway; went to be with the Lord on the night of January 31; 2014.
She was born June 17; 1922 in Monessen; She was a daughter of the late William and Flora Atkinson Kyle. She resided in Belle Vernon for 60 plus years
Doris served as choir and youth leader for the Evangelical Brethren Church of Monessen before joining the United Methodist Church of Monessen. She loved watching Steeler games and listening to Pirates broadcasts. Her family was her everything.
Surviving are- Her daughter; Ruth Callaway; with whom she resided with until taking up residence at Country Care Manor. Grandchildren- Scott Callaway and wife Lori; Ken Callaway and wife Beth; and Shari Callaway Daniels .Eight great grandchildren- Matt; Jake; Ben; Kenny Paul; Nathan; Alexa; Megan; and Sydney; all of whom were the loves of her life. She is also survived by three sisters in law- Florence Callaway; Yvonne Stewart; and Bernice Kyle. Numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; Joseph Callaway and her son- Kenneth Callaway. Brothers- William; Warren; and Robert Kyle. A sister- Mildren Kyle Bachetti. Afton Smereczniak; 92; of Belle Vernon; Washington Township; died at 3:20 p.m. Monday; Nov. 19; 2012; at Mt. Macrina Manor; Uniontown. Born May 30; 1920; in Pricedale; he was the son of the late Peter and Mary Dudas Smereczniak. Mr. Smereczniak was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church and was retired from U.S. Army Coprs Of Engineers; Lock and Dam Division; where he worked as a lockman. He was a veteran of World War II; where he served in the U.S. Navy; enjoyed being outdoors; gardening and built his house from the ground up. He is survived by his wife; Elizabeth Ann (Miske) Smereczniak; to whom he celebrated 70 years of marriage on Oct. 12; 2012; daughter and son-in-law Mary Beth and Thomas DeMillion of Upper St. Clair; three sons and daughters-in-law; David and Jerilyn Smereczniak of Clarksville; Richard and Mary Smereczniak of Belle Vernon; and Mark Anthony and Lisa Smereczniak of Sterling; Va.; a brother; Philip Smereczniak of Port Richie; Fla.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a son; Thomas Peter Smereczniak; an infant daughter; Janice Marie Smereczniak; brother John Smereczniak; and two sisters; Justina Nogy and Virginia Smereczniak.
