JOHN WILLIAM DICKERSON
John William Dickerson passed away on Thursday; Aug. 11; 2011; in his home. He was born on March 29; 1921; in Cedar Hill; Tenn. John W. Dickerson was truly blessed to reach the age of 90 wonderful years. He worked for Irvin Works Steel for over 38 years until he retired. Not many people get to see six generations; but he was the one blessed with that honor. Pap-Pap loved so many things; and number one on that list of things he loved was the Lord first and foremost. Everybody who knew Pap-Pap knew he really liked to fish;rain or shine he didn’t care; he was ready to go. He used to spend hours upon hours on the fishing banks all over the place; and he also loved to hunt. He also loved gardening almost as much as fishing; and was very pleased with everything he grew. Another thing he loved was cooking. He often bragged about his cooking; he thought he was the best cook ever and you couldn’t tell him any different. He used to love telling stories especially to his kids when they were young; scaring them half out of their wits – that was the mischievous side of him. He used to love his dog; Socks. You could always see him from time to time walking his dog in the downtown Monessen area. He accepted the Lord in 1993 right after the death of his wife at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Bentleyville; under Pastor Lewis Covington and Pastor Leslie Regan. Currently Pastor Layman Davis is the pastor at Bethlehem. During his illness; he periodically visited the Christian Center in Belle Vernon; where Tim Burgan pastored. Preceded in death was his loving wife of over 50 years; Katherine Helen Lewis-Dickerson; a baby daughter; his parents; Irving Dickerson and Emma Johnson-Dickerson; two brothers; Henry Irving and Jake Dickerson; two sisters; Ida Mae and Mildred Dickerson; five grandchildren; Glenn (Frankie) Oliver; Ameerah and Carmelia Dickerson; Marquise Dickerson and Jasmine Best; and his longtime friend; Trueheart Wade. John is survived by a host of family members that will miss him dearly including a brother; Charles Richard Dickerson; and sister-in-law; Ophelia Dickerson; of Monongahela; seven living children; John Lewis Dickerson; and daughter-in-law; Marcia; of Ridgeway; S.C.; Grace Dickerson-Thomas; of Monessen; Shirley Dickerson-Mitchell; of Wilson; N.C.; Charles Bubby Dickerson; of Monessen; Barbra Dickerson-Frost; of Monessen; James Gangbuster Dickerson; of Charleroi; Carolyn (Roxanne) Cole; of Monessen; a total of 72 grandchildren including 18 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandson. Several cousins; nephews and nieces will also miss him dearly. There will be a private funeral service on Wednesday; Aug. 17; 2011; at 11 a.m. at the House of Jackson Memorial Chapel where Pastor Layman Davis will be officiating; interment burial following at the Belle Vernon Cemetery. We would like to take this time to thank everyone that has sent cards; monetary gifts; or just words of encouragement during this great loss.
