Charles E. Brownlee; 87; of Belle Vernon; passed away Sunday; November 7; 2010 in Mon Valley Hospital. A son of the late Harold and Ruby Dittman Brownlee; he was born in Washington; PA on February 11; 1923. Formerly of Whitehall; he had resided in Belle Vernon since 1970. Charles was a member of the Charleroi Elks; retired from the Monessen Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Company in 1986 and was a veteran of World War II; having served in the U. S. Army Air Corps. Survivors include his wife of 34 years; Maxine Brownlee; one daughter and son-in-law; Patricia and Robert Pooley of Coshocton; OH; one son and daughter-in-law; Charles ‘Chaz’ and Rene Brownlee of Belle Vernon; one brother; Robert Brownlee of Houston; TX and two grandchildren; Erin Moore; and her husband; Kent; of Louisville; Ky and James Pooley of Irvine; CA. George Fudge Bednar; 92; of Gillespie; Fayette City; passed away Monday; Oct. 28; 2013; in Country Care Manor surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 13; 1921; in Gillespie; Washington Township; son of the late Josef Bednar and the late Mary Matvej Bednar. George was a member of Holy Ghost Byzantine Catholic Church; Charleroi; and retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel; Allenport Plant. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. George is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families. William S. Hopkins; 57; of Monessen; died unexpectedly Wednesday; Aug. 13; 2008. Born March 30; 1951; in Charleroi; he was the son of June Hopkins; who resides in Charleroi; and the late Walter Hopkins. He was a retired lieutenant with the Monessen Police Department. He was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church; the Fraternal Order of Police; Mon Valley Police Association; Free and Accepted Masons and Teamsters Local 205. Wilma L. Nogy; 92; of Belle Vernon; died Thursday; August 7; 2008 in Mon Valley Care Center; Carroll Township. She was born March 14; 1916 in Donora; the daughter of the late James Orie and Mary Elizabeth Strickland Matthews. Wilma was Methodist by faith. She worked at Fishers in Monessen in the 1950’s and 1960’s as a salesperson. A devoted mother; grandmother and great-grandmother; she loved to bake and cook. In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by two sisters; Sylvia Kless and Lillian Dudgeon; one brother; James A. Matthews; one son-in-law; Rudy McCloskey; and one daughter-in-law; Ferna Nogy. Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law; Cherie and Irv Perlmutter; of Stillwater; Minn.; and Joan McCloskey; of Charleroi; one son; Walter B.
