William S. Hopkins; 57; of Monessen; died unexpectedly Wednesday; Aug. 13; 2008. Born March 30; 1951; in Charleroi; he was the son of June Hopkins; who resides in Charleroi; and the late Walter Hopkins. He was a retired lieutenant with the Monessen Police Department. He was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church; the Fraternal Order of Police; Mon Valley Police Association; Free and Accepted Masons and Teamsters Local 205. Wilma L. Nogy; 92; of Belle Vernon; died Thursday; August 7; 2008 in Mon Valley Care Center; Carroll Township. She was born March 14; 1916 in Donora; the daughter of the late James Orie and Mary Elizabeth Strickland Matthews. Wilma was Methodist by faith. She worked at Fishers in Monessen in the 1950’s and 1960’s as a salesperson. A devoted mother; grandmother and great-grandmother; she loved to bake and cook. In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by two sisters; Sylvia Kless and Lillian Dudgeon; one brother; James A. Matthews; one son-in-law; Rudy McCloskey; and one daughter-in-law; Ferna Nogy. Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law; Cherie and Irv Perlmutter; of Stillwater; Minn.; and Joan McCloskey; of Charleroi; one son; Walter B. A former member of St. John’s Lutheran Church of Charleroi; he had resided in Florida since 1980. Formerly of Belle Vernon; he had been a co-owner of Balaska’s Bar. Albert retired from Envisors Engineering of Winterhaven; Fla.; and was a World War II veteran. Survivors include his wife; Santa Altomari Balaska; one daughter and son-in-law; Deborah and Jerry Chrzaszcz; of Richmond; Va.; two sons and one daughter-in- law; Terence Ferrara; of Swansea; Mass.; and Henry and Pamela Ferrara; of Nahant; Mass.; one sister; Helen Zofko; of Warren; Ohio; and five grandchildren.
