Cono J. Pezzino; 90; of Speers Hill; died Monday; Feb. 16; 2009; in Mon Valley Hospital. He was born Oct. 12; 1918; in Pittsburgh; a son of the late Calogero and Antonietta Pezzino. He was a member of Mary; Mother of the Church Parish; Charleroi; Elks Lodge No. 494 and a former member of the Lions Club; all in Charleroi; and American Legion Post No. 540 of Pittsburgh. Cono was the former president of Speers Borough Council in 1962. A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II; he served with the 33rd Fighter Squadron in the Asiatic Pacific. Cono retired in 1983 as the area manager for Columbia Gas; where he started his employment in 1939. He is survived by his wife; Stella (Doolas) Pezzino; two daughters; Mary Ann Papantonakis; of Speers; and Irene (Steve) Douglas; of Canonsburg; one sister; Carmella Long; of Pittsburgh; six grandchildren; Kari; Lexie and Katrina Papantonakis; and Sean; Chris and Matt Douglas; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his first wife; Irma (Storino) Pezzino; one brother; Anthony Pezzino; and two sisters; Angelina Palombia and Genevie Prosperi. A daughter of the late John and Maria Sebastiani Imperatore; she was born in Canonsburg on Oct. 31; 1921. She was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church of Belle Vernon; the Catholic Daughters of the Americas; Court 1522; the Friends of the Veterans and was a member and past treasurer of the Annita Garibaldi Society. A resident of Belle Vernon since 1946; Olga had been employed at Zelenski’s Bridal Shop for over 50 years; retiring in July 2012.
