Alex Turda; 58; of Monongahela (Forward Township); died Monday; June 1; 2009; in Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh. Born in North Charleroi on June 25; 1950; he was the son of the late Alex Turda and Yolan (Adam) Turda; who survives and resides in Rostraver Township. Mr. Turda was employed by Volkswagon and also worked as a mechanic. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Conflict. He is survived by his wife; Karen S. (Staley) Turda; daughter and son-in-law; Stefanie M. and Tim Schneider; of West Newton; two grandchildren; Emily Kalynn Schneider and Jonah Alexander Schneider; and sister; Adele E. Maria Bertha Hewitt Giles Larkin; 73; of Donora; departed this life on Saturday; July 18; 2009; in Monongahela Valley Hospital. Born Feb. 17; 1936; in Powhatan; Va.; she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Inez Winfred Dawes Hewitt. She was a retired employee of the Housekeeping department at California University of Pennsylvania. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board and Kitchen Committee. She was a Den Mother with the Cub Scouts; volunteered with the Head Start Program of McKeesport; delegate for the Democratic National Convention and member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion. Survivors include her beloved companion; Edward Breedlove; of Donora; children; Kevin (Dora) Giles; of Wilkinsburg; Ranata (Michael; deceased) Jones; of Springfield; Mass.; Mark Giles of Ellenwood; Ga.; Rev. Frances C. Hough; 89; of Grove City; formerly of Jackson Center; died Wednesday; June 2; 2010; at 10:16 p.m.; in the Grove City Medical Center; Pine Township. Frances was born Aug. 16; 1920; in Brownsville; daughter of the late George W. Christner and Grace Ellen Coleman. A homemaker; Frances married David N. Hough on June 14; 1940. She enjoyed ceramics; sewing; and building and furnishing dollhouses. She was a member at the former Schoefield United Methodist Church in Millbrook; Pa. Survivors include her four children; Grace Martin and husband; Ronald; of Fayette City; John D. Hough and wife Rhonda; of Butler; Kathryn Mathay; of Jackson Center; and Flossie Cunningham and husband Lee; of Jackson Center; one brother; William Bill Christner and wife; Betty; of Brownsville; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Stephen D. Yoney Jr.; 66; of Monongahela; died Sunday; July 19; 2009; in the Monongahela Valley Hospital. He was born Oct. 19; 1942; in North Charleroi; a son of Stephen D. Yoney Sr. and Gail Podolinski Yoney. Steve was a graduate of Monessen High School; class of 1960; and the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in 1964. He was a member of the former Holy Name of Jesus Church in Monessen. Upon his graduation from mortuary school; he worked with his father in the funeral business until he opened the Stephen D. Yoney Jr. Funeral Home in 1972; which he was currently operating until his death. He is survived by his wife; Alvera Gantner Yoney; two sons; Stephen D. Yoney III; and his wife Ingrid; of Canonsburg; and Dennis M. Yoney and his wife Jodi; of Charlotte; N.C.; three daughters; Gail A. Yoney of Santa Barbara; Calif.; Sherry L. Watkins and her husband Gordon; of Charleroi; and Amy M. Yoney; of Las Vegas; Nev.; five grandchildren; Erica Yoney; Gordon Watkins III; Ashley Watkins; Alyse and Gabrielle Yoney; and his faithful companions; Sandy and Margaret.
