Mr. Allfree was also a member; past exalted ruler and past
board vice president of BPOE
Lodge 494.
In addition; he was a member
of VFW Post 167 of Charleroi
and Roscoe American Legion.
A U.S. Air Force veteran of
World War II; he was retired
from the Wheeling-Pittsburgh
Steel Corp. Allenport plant.
Survivors include his wife;
Mildred Diethorn Allfree; and
three sisters; Belle Brutout and
Mary Wood; both of Charleroi;and Harriet Downer of Carroll Township. Friends will be received Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m.and Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.in the Schrock-Hogan Funeral Home Inc.;226 Fallowfield Ave.;Charleroi;where services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m.with the Rev.Norman Hunt of the Christian Church of California officiating. Word has been received of the death of former Belle Vernon resident Kathryn Schmidt Anderson;91;who died Monday;Oct.17;1994;in Madison;Miss. She was a charter member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem;Bethlehem Shrine;Order of Eastern Star in Brentwood;Pa. A graduate of Indiana State Teachers College;Indiana;Pa.;Mrs.Anderson completed post graduate studies at Harvard and the University of Pennsylvania. She supervised physical education in the Monessen schools;coached girls basketball and instructed swimming and lifesaving classes. During World War I;she rolled bandages for the Red Cross. During World War II;she supervised one shift of women volunteers who served food to the servicemen and women passing through on the troop trains at the Connellsville Canteen in Connellsville. Prior to her retirement in 1973;Mrs.Anderson worked in the treasurer’s office at Foster Forbes Glass Company in Marion;Ind. Survivors include one daughter;Mrs.James R. (Joan) Taylor of Madison;Miss.;four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday;Dec.17;1994;at 10 a.m.in the chapel of Belle Vernon Cemetery.

Joseph Ambrose;77;of 316 Graham St.;Belle Vernon;died Friday;April 1;1994;at 5:30 a.m.in the Washington County Health Center. He was born Nov.22;1916;in Belle Vernon;a son of the late Fidel and Theresa Ambrose. A lifelong resident of Belle Vernon;he was a U.S.Navy veteran of World War II. Mr.Ambrose was a retired railroad employee;having worked at Shire Oaks. After retiring from the railroad;he worked for the Belle Vernon Area School District at Bellmar Middle School. He was a member of the Belle Vernon American Legion. In addition to his parents;he was preceded in death by his first wife;Mary Ross Ambrose;his second wife;Grace Mills Ambrose;two brothers;Vincenzo and Fred Ambrose;and two sisters;Josephine Mendicino and Rose Weigle. Survivors include two sons;Fred Joseph Ambrose of Cokeburg and Joseph Fidel Ambrose of Frankfort;Ohio;two stepsons;Alden Mills of Belle Vernon and Clark Mills of Philadelphia;one stepdaughter;Lana Mills Vrabel of Lakewood;Ohio;one brother;Charles Ambrose of Belle Vernon;one sister;Catherine Vaccaro of Monessen;four grandchildren;seven stepgrandchildren;several step-great-grandchildren. Mrs.Axton was a member of Stockdale Church of the Nazarene. She was employed as a licensed practical nurse at Mon Valley Hospital in Carroll Township. Rosetta Lawson Allen; 71; of Greenhill; Pricedale; died Wednesday; March 3; 1993; in Mon Valley Hospital.She was born June 14; 1921; in Monessen; a daughter of the late Thomas and Ada Lawson Robinson.She was a self-employed beautician. She was a member of the National Hairdressers and Cosmetologist Association. She held a teacher’s license. She was Baptist by faith and a resident of the Mon Valley most of her life.Survivors include two sons and one daughter-in-law; Willie Allen of Atlanta and Gus and Irene Allen of San Francisco;one daughter; Betty Allen Lowe of Atlanta; two brothers;Henry Lawson of Greenhill;Pricedale;and George Robinson of Phoenix.one aunt;Lovie Hall of Thomaston;Ga.;eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren;numerous nieces;nephews and cousins.
