Curtis E.Bloomer;61;of Belle Vernon R.D.3;died Saturday;May 19;1990;in Jefferson Hospital. He was born in Insull;Ky.;April 17;1929;a son of the late Hillard and Emma Rowe Bloomer. Mr.Bloomer was a member of the Charleroi Baptist Church. He had been a resident of Belle Vernon since 1968;formerly of Cincinatti;Ohio. He was employed as a manager for Philips Lighting Company;Meadowlands. He is survived by his wife;Dorothy Whittle Bloomer;a daughter;Dianne Bloomer;at home;a son and daughter-in-law;Curtis E.and Connie Bloomer Jr.of Bealeton;Va.;his mother-in-law;Vina Whittle of Charleroi;a brother;Addison Bloomer of Milford;Ohio;two sisters;Myrtle Alice Ellis of Mason;Ohio and Ruth Martin of Pompano Beach;Fla.;and two grandchildren;Amanda and Megan Bloomer. Gladys Bakewell;84;of 213 Grove Ave.;Belle Vernon;died Tuesday;May 1;1990;at 12:45 p.m.in Washington Hospital. Born May 11;1905;in Dunlevy;she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Elizabeth Abbott. Mrs.Brakewell had been a resident of Belle Vernon since 1942 and was a member of First Presbyterian Church;the Belle Vernon Golden Agers and the former Degree of Honor;where she served as treasurer. A graduate of California Normal School;she taught for many years in Centerville Borough Schools. In addition to her patents;she was preceded in death by her husband;Christopher;on Dec.10;1983;three sisters;Ethel Hoover;Beatrice Hall and Ada Bisencamp.and a great-granddaughter;Amy Mori. Surviving are two sons;Jack Bakewell of Belle Vernon and Bill Bakewell of Joppatowne;Md.;two daughters;Mrs.Gene (Marilois) Hopes of California;Pa.;and Mrs.Metro (Elaine) Backo of Belle Vernon;12 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She was boen Jan.25;1913;in Monessen;a daughter of the late Jack and Minnie Viviani. Mrs.Benny had attended Portage Avenue Baptist Church and the Eunice Bonner Senior Center;both in Portage. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband;David J.Benny;in April 1974. Survivors include one daughter;Mrs.Charles Eugene (Josephine) Laneve;with whom she made her home;three grandchildren;David;Gina and Brian;one brother;Ernest Jiggs Viviani of Long Branch;several nieces and nephews. Theodore J.Bishop;84;of 546 Edwards Ave.;Belle Vernon;died Sunday;March 4;1990;at 4:55 a.m.in Mon Valley Hospital. He was born in Phillipsburg;Pa.;July 11;1905;a son of the late Alban and Cassandra Sterner Bishop. Mr.Bishop was a member of the Marion Presbyterian Church and a former Elder of the church. He was a former member of the Washington Township Planning Commission. In addition;he was a member and former President of the Washington Township Lion’s Club and a 50-year member of the F and AM Lodge 161 of Lonaconing;MD.and the Consistory Valley of Pittsburgh. Mr.Bishop also belonged to the Syria temple of Pittsburgh. Having lived in the Belle Vernon area since 1953;he formerly had worked for the U.S.Steel Corporation;Irvin Works in West Mifflin. He then came to the Allenport Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel in 1953. He retired in 1970 as General Foreman in the Strip Mill. In addition to his parents;he was preceded in death by two brothers;Donald and Francis Bishop. He is survived by his wife of 64 years;Mary Merrbaugh Bishop;three sons;Theodore L.Bishop of Chesterfield;Mo.;Fred R.Bishop of Port Vue and Raymond E.Bishop of McKeesport;11 grandchildren;and five great-grandchildren. A lifelong resident of the Belle
Vernon area; he was a member
of Belle Vernon American
Legion Post 659; the AARP and
Mon Valley Chapter 131 of the
Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Bainbridge retired in 1984 as a technician for the Mine Safety and health Administration of the United States Government. He was a U.s.Army veteran of World War II;serving in the Pacific. Survivors include his wife;Harriet Hilty Bainbridge;one daughter;Paticia Bainbridge at home;and one brother;Richard Bainbridge of Fairhope.
