Jane Sands;79;of Fairhope;Belle Vernon;died Friday;Jan.1;1999;in Mon Valley Hospital after a lengthy illness. She was born May 14;1919;in Washington Township;a daughter of the late Oscar and Olga Kalmi Sands. She was a member of the Lynnwood Lutheran Church;Belle Vernon. Survivors include one sister;Helen Parker of Portsmouth;Va. In addition to her parents;she was preceded in death by two sisters;Irene Daniels in July 1994;and Vilma Mackey in December 1998;and three brothers;David;Leo and Oscar Sands. Friends will be received Sunday from noon to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.in the Eley/McCrory Funeral Home Inc.;Fayette City;and Monday until 10:30 a.m.;when Prayer services will be held;followed by funeral services at 11 a.m.in the Lynnwood Lutheran Church;Belle Vernon;with pastor Donald Chudd officiating. Carl Sobek;72;of Belle Vernon;Lynnwood;died Friday;Oct.9;1998;in Mon Valley Hospital after a short illness. He was born on Oct.14;1925;in Fayette City;a son of the late Mike and Mary Ciba Sobek. Mr.Sobek was a member of Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church of Fayette City;and a veteran of World War II;having served with the U.S.Army in the European Theatre. He was a member of Brightwell-Daugherty Post 484 American Legion of Fayette City and American Slavonic Citizens Club of Fayette City. He was a retired employee of (Niemeyer) Anderson Oldsmobile Dealership in Elizabeth. Survivors include his wife of 50 years;Irene Belczyk;a son and daughter-in-law;Carl W.and Darla (Astle) Sobek of Hermitage;three granddaughters;Jordan;Chelsea and Alexandra Sobek;and a sister and brother-in-law;Ann and Anthony Semanick of Fayette City. In addition to his parents;he was preceded in death by four brothers;Joseph;Larry;Thaddeus (Ted) and an infant brother;and by s sister;Stella Errigo. Friends will be received Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. in the Eley/McCrory Funeral Home Inc.;Main Street;Fayette City;and Monday until 9:30 a.m.;when a prayer service will be held. Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. in the Holy Spirit Roman Catholic Church;Fayette City;with the Rev.Leonard McAlpin as celebrant. Interment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery. A parish wake service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. in the funeral home;followed by services at 7:30 p.m. conducted by the Brightwell-Daughtery Post 484 American Legion.
