Joseph Curnow;7;of Belle Vernon;was killed when the bicycle he was riding was hit by an auto on Rt.51 near Twin Coaches;at 8:15 p.m.Thursday;Aug.3;1956. He was the son of Mrs.Constance Curnow;of Belle Vernon;R.D.3. He was born April 23;1949. He was preceded in death by his father;Lloyd Curnow;who died April 13;1953. Earl Crowe;aged 62 years;of 31 Reed avenue;died Wednesday;Dec.7;1955;at 8:10 p.m.in Charleroi-Monessen Hospital. Mr.Crowe had been a resident of Monessen for the past 50 years. Surviving are two brothers;Thomas;of Long Branch and Charles of Monessen;and two sisters;Mary McKay;of Monaca;and Mrs.Catherine O’Toole;of Monessen. ROBERT LEE ( BUD ) CAIN
Robert L.(Bud) Cain;18;101 Main St.Belle Vernon;employed at Dutch’s Texaco service station;Charleroi;was instantly killed in a motorcylce-automobile collision on Monessen road. He was dead on arrival at Charleroi-Monessen Hospital at 1:30 a.m.Thursday;Aug.11;1955. Mr.Cain was operating a motorcycle on Rt.906 between Monessen and Belle Vernon at 1:05 a.m.;according to State police. At a point about one-half mile south of Monessen;Mr.Cain was reported to have attempted to pass a string of automobiles. His cycle crashed head-on into an automobile operated by Mark D.Smith;26;1117 Locust St.;McKeesport. In a statement to State Police of Belle Vernon barracks;Smith said Cain apparently attempted to pass the string of cars. Smith said he saw Cain approaching and stopped his vehicle a moment before the crash. Mr.Cain was hurled from the cycle and his skull was fractured. Other injuries included internal injuries and a fractured right leg. He was removed at once to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The lad worked at the Dutch’s service station located on Mckean Avenue just this side of Maple Creek. He was well known to many Charleroi and Belle Vernon residents. Troopers estimated total damage in the crash at $1;300. Robert Lee Cain is survived by his parents Mr.and Mrs.Jesse Cain;three brothers;Charles at home;John and James with the U.S.Air Force;three sisters;Mrs.William (Mary Lou) Chowning;Shelburn;Ind.;Martha and Sarah Cain at home. Friends will be received at the Toner Funeral Home;Broad avenue;Belle Vernon;from 1 to 5 p.m.and from 7 to 10 p.m. Services will be held there Saturday;August 13;1955;at 2 p.m.;in charge of Rev.Vernon Bowers of the First Christian Church of Monessen.
