A Belle Vernon area teenager was shot and killed as he and two companions finished hunting in Rostraver Twp.late Tuesday afternoon;July 2;1974. The victim was identified as Thomas Campbell Hepple;17;of 921 Brown St.;Belle Vernon. He was pronounced dead at the Charleroi Division of the Monongahela Valley Hospital at 7:30 p.m. With the victim at the time were David Michael Macko;18;of Belle Vernon R.D.1 and Joseph Nicholas Hepple;15;of Pricedale. According to authorities;the three boys had just finished groundhog hunting in the vicinity of the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp.slag dump off Route 201. As they were unloading the guns;a 12-gauge shotgun discharged striking the victim in the right chest.

Charles Howarth;78;of 76 Main St.;Pricedale;died on Tuesday;May 22;1973;at 3:10 a.m. in Brownsville General Hospital. He was born in England on January 31;1895;and was a retired coal miner;having retired from Victoria Coal Co.;Pricedale;in 1955. Mr.Howarth had lived in Pricedale since 1936. Ernest Horn;83;of 29 Knox Ave.;Monessen;died Tuesday;May 15;1973;at 6:15 a.m.in Charleroi Division of Mon Valley Hospital. He had been ill the past month. Mr.Horn was born in Clarksville on Dec.14;1889. He was the son of the late David Newton and Elizabeth Fulton Horn. He retired from the Irvin Works of United States Steel. He was a member of First Baptist Church;Monessen. He was preceded in death by a son;Eugene;in 1962. Edward Halinka;51;of Gibsonton;Belle Vernon R.D.2;died Thursday;April 19;1973;at 1:10 p.m. in McKeesport Hospital. He was born in Donora on May 15;1921;and was a veteran of service with the U.S.Army in World War II. Mr.Halinka was a member of First Baptist Church;Monessen;and the Belle Vernon Volunteer Fire Dept. He had resided in Gibsonton the past 12 years. He was employed at the Fisher Body Plant in West Mifflin and took a sick leave in january;1972. Due to illness;he then retired in January;1973.
