Lyde B.Mattis;aged 64 years;of 412 Fayette street;Belle Vernon;died in Mercy hosptal;Pittsburgh;at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday;October 12;1941 after a short illness. She leaves her husband Lawrence B.Mattis;one daughter;Mrs.Hallie Himes of Washington;D.C.;three sons;Norman of Cambridge;Mass.;Lawrence Jr.at home and West;a member of the martime commission now in the Pacific waters;two sisters;Mrs.Hallie Stitt;of Belle Vernon and Mrs.Lucille Thompson of Mckeesport;and one grandchild. The remains are at the late home where funeral services will be held Wednesday;October 15;1941 at 2:30 p.m. in charge of Rev.Percy Mundy;pastor of the Belle Vernon Baptist church. Interment will be in Belle Vernon cemetery. Harold Toner is the funeral director.

Gene Martin;well-known resident of Monessen;aged 73 years;died at his home;636 Third street;Monessen;Monday afternoon;July 28;1941;at 5:30 p.m.;of a heart attack. He had lived in Monessen for the past 44 years;coming here from France. Although Mr.Martin had been failing in health and had a heart condition;his death came as a shock. A native of France;Mr.Martin was a member of St.Leonard’s Roman Catholic Church and of the Franco-Belgium Society of Monessen. He was retired. Surviving are hie wife;Mrs.Marie Martin;one son;August Martin of Monessen;one sister;Mrs.Mary Vigne;also of Monessen;six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Friends are being received at the house until time for funeral services at 2 p.m. Thursday in St.Leonard’s Catholic Church;Monessen. Rev.Raymond Lucas will officiate at the services.Interment will be in Belle Vernon cemetery. C.L.and Edwin Melenyzer are funeral directors.
