Charles C. Griffith; 87; of Speer Street; Belle Vernon; died Wednesday; Oct. 2; 2002; in Mon Valley Hospital. A son of the late Zade and Rhetta Rush Griffith; he was born in Pine Bank on June 17; 1915. Mr. Griffith was a member of First United Methodist Church of Belle Vernon; the Mon Valley Dartball League; the Belle Vernon Lions Club; the Peoples Gas Breakfast Club and enjoyed league bowling. Formerly of Brave; he had resided in Belle Vernon since 1959. Mr. Griffith retired in 1977 after 37 years with the former Peoples Gas Company and was a combat engineer in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received a Purple Heart for injuries received and five other medals. Survivors include his wife of 53 years; Betty Shultz Griffith; two daughters and sons-in-law; Charlene and Jack Backo of Belle Vernon; and Diane and Mark Rade of Perryopolis; one stepson and daughter-in-law; Jack and Joyetta Hoy of Waynesburg; five grandchildren and their spouses; Murray and Debbie Hoy of Waynesburg; Suzzette and John Fitzgerald of Frederick; Md.; Scott and Kristen Backo of Upper St. Clair; Brian and Gina Backo of Munhall; and Jennifer Rade of Perryopolis; five great-grandchildren; Courtney and Karlie Hoy; Brady and Patrick Fitzgerald; and Ryan Backo; and one sister-in-law; Regina Griffith of Michigan. In addition to his parents; Mr. Griffith was preceded in death by one sister; Henrietta Griffith; and one brother; John Griffith. Evelyn F. Moody; 74; of Belle Vernon; died Friday; Nov. 9; 2001; in her home. Born in Groveton; N.H.; on March 5; 1927; she was the daughter of the late William and Rose (Bell) Woods. Mrs. Moody worked at Charland Sportswear in Speers and resided in Washington Township all her adult life. She was Catholic by faith. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law; Raymond Jr. and Judith Moody of North Belle Vernon; and her daughter and son-in-law; Marilyn and John Timko of Washington Township; two brothers; Leo Woods and Joseph Woods; both of New Hampshire; two sisters; Beatrice Harriman of New Hampshire and Gloria Wenzel of Virginia; five grandchildren and their spouses; Mary Lou and Chris Hasson; Marci Lin and Ken Seliga; Raymond P. and Jill Moody; Brian and Donna Timko; and Eric Timko; and six great-grandchildren. A daughter of the late Edwin and Dorothy Sethman Rainey; she was born in Belle Vernon on Dec. 25; 1935. Mrs. Bair was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church of Brownsville and enjoyed gardening; crocheting and quilting. She was raised in Denbo and graduated from Centerville High School in 1954. Mrs. Bair resided in Brownsville for the past 17 years and was formerly of Ohio. Survivors include her husband of 38 years; LeRoy W. Bair; one daughter; Dorothy Bair; at home; one sister and brother-in-law; Darlene and Mike Skobel; one brother; Ronald Rainey; one cousin with whom she was raised; Dorothy Carr McDonald; all of Belle Vernon; and several nieces and nephews. Murray Bevan; she was born July 30; 1926; in Charleroi. Mrs. Marklewicz was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Belle Vernon and its H.O.A. class. Formerly of Charleroi; she had resided in Belle Vernon since 1952. Survivors include her husband of 55 years; Joseph G. Marklewicz; one son and daughter-in-law; Scott and Judith Marklewicz; and one brother and sister-in-law; Marvin and Marlene Bevan; all of Belle Vernon; one sister and brother-in-law; Nancy and Raymond Jones of Donora; one grandson; Jared Minor; and several nieces and nephews.
