Andrew A. Donuts Baron; 90; of Paradise; Calif.; formerly of Pricedale; went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday; Oct. 15; 2002. He was born in Duquesne on Sept. 24; 1912; a son of John and Mary Baron. He attended Monessen High School. In 1940; he married Catherine Bartek of Belle Vernon. Mr. Baron retired in 1973 with 44 1/2 years of service from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel; Monessen. He was a member of the Hungarian Club in Pricedale; where he loved to play pinochle once a week. Another favorite pastime was deer and bear hunting. After retiring; he and his wife Catherine moved to Dana Point; Calif.; where Andy was made an honorary member of the carpenter’s union. Andy lived; in his later years; with his wife Catherine at the Cypress Acres Convalescent Hospital; where Andy was considered to be the most helpful; compassionate resident ever to come through their doors. He was an active member of the Resident Council; where he constructively handled issues in defense and support of his many friends at Cypress Acres; right up until his stroke on Oct. 6. Always participating at resident activities; Andy was ever present at gospel singing; Bible study; sports; current events; exercise; and; of course; bingo. On Sept. 24; 2002; Andy enjoyed the special celebration of his 9Oth birthday; for all his family was in attendance. In addition to his parents; family who went on before were his brothers and sisters; John; James; Joseph; Anna; Paul and Margaret Baron Benson. He is survived by his wife; Catherine; who still resides at Cypress Acres Convalescent Hospital in Paradise; Calif.; and one sister; Mary Baron of Monessen. Also left to cherish his memory are his daughter; Bette Marino and husband Anthony of Magalia; Calif.; granddaughters; Carrie (Tom) Ank; Lia (James) Kieckhafer; and great-grandchildren; Madeline and Abigail Ank; and Alexis and Will Kieckhafer; all of California. Uncle Andy will be sadly missed by nephews and nieces; Dolores Roskovich; Tom Buchanan; Judy Johnson; Allan and Terry Tylka; Nancy Poole and John Radich and their families. Services will be held Friday; Oct. 25; at 10:30 a.m. at the chapel in Belle Vernon Cemetery; where he will be laid to rest; with the Rev. Eugene Spear; pastor of Char-Belle Free Methodist Church; Belle Vernon; officiating. The LEONARD J. Reed (LaRue) Street Jr.; 56; of Monessen; died Thursday; Oct. 17; 2002; in Canonsburg Hospital. He was a retired career serviceman with the U.S. Army. He was born Feb. 20; 1946; in Winston-Salem; N.C.; a son of the late Reed and Bernice Street. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by one brother; Walter Street; and three sisters; Diane Eubanks; Brenda Street and Sandra Robertson. He leaves to cherish his memory his fiancee; Sarah Davis; one daughter; Ariana York of Monessen; three sons; Laron York; LaRue York and Eddie York; all of Detroit; Mich; one stepson; Jamie Watkins of Monessen; nine brothers and eight sisters-in-law; John and Connie Street; Charles and Michelle Street; James and Anita Street; Wendell and Carla Street; William and Tonya Street; Lawrence and Carla Street; and Kenneth Street; all of Pittsburgh; Richard and Shirette Street of Monessen; Ernest and Vicki Street of South Carolina; three sisters; Barbara Street of Mississippi; Corrie Street and Flora Street; both of Pittsburgh; one aunt; Doris Portis of Indianapolis; Ind.; two grandchildren; Heaven and Angelica York of Detroit; Mich.; and a host of nieces; nephews; relatives and friends. Virginia Gerhardt; 80; of Canonsburg; died Wednesday; Oct. 9; 2002; in her home. A daughter of the late Eugene and Julia Samonsky Caruso; she was born in Monessen on Feb. 20; 1922. Mrs. Gerhardt was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg. Formerly of Monessen; Mrs. Gerhardt resided in Canonsburg for the past 53 years. Survivors include one sister; Jean Silvestro of Belle Vernon; and one niece; Vicki Cremonese and husband Michael of Mt. Lebanon. In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband; Paul W. Gerhardt Jr.; in 1997; and her son; Paul W. Bill Gerhardt III; in 2001. There will be no public visitation.
