The funeral of Levi J. Jeffries;
one of Belle Vernon’s oldest and
most honored citizens is being held
Wednesday afternoon;January 21;1914; from the family home;
death having occurred at 7:15 p. m. Monday;Jan.19;1914.
The services were conducted by the Rev. Perrin Baker; J. B.
Taylor and W. Adam. Interment is
being made in the Belle Vernon Cemetery. Deceased was 86 years of age; having been born in Perryopolis; Nov.
23; 1828. In 1831 he went to Fayette
City with his parents; and to Jefferson township in 1833. In 1836 he
went to Belle Vernon where he
learned the trade of window glass
blowing.
Seven years later he moved to Pittsburgh; then to the State of California. He returned to Belle Vernon in 1851 and during the Civil War he was engaged in the shipment of coal to Cincinnati;OH and Louisville;KY. For years he owned the Dry Docks above Fayette City. The deceased again moved to Pittsburgh;returning to Belle Vernon in 1886;where he has since lived;serving as Justice of the Peace three terms being in public office more that 10 years. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons of Belle Vernon and the I.O.O.F.of Fayette City. Mrs.Jeffries had been dead about a year and he is survived by three children;as follows;Mrs.Frank Beam of Speers;Mrs.Cora Shannon of Elmsworth and Fred T.Jeffries of Belle Vernon.
