Born Sallie Mae Willie Wardell on Oct. 9; 1911; in Bessemer; Ala.; she was the only child born to the late Rev. Wilson and Carrie Walker and the oldest living member of the Ware family. She later changed her name to Christella M. Butler. In addition to her parents; she was preceded in death by her husband; Benjamin E. Butler Jr. Christella graduated from Monessen High School in 1930. She was a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church for over 70 years; the oldest living member and Mother of her church. She served as a teacher and instructor for the BYPU; president of the Mission Department for 17 years; Sunday school teacher; senior choir and gospel chorus member; served on the Nurses Board; corresponding secretary of the YWBA and a long-time cook at YWBA headquarters. Aldo Stagi; 89; of Philipsburg; formerly of Fallowfield Township; died Tuesday; Oct. 30; 2007; in his home. A son of the late Charles and Kate Latinski Stagi; he was born in Belle Vernon on June 11; 1918. Aldo was a member and deacon of the First Christian Church of Fayette City and retired in 1983 from Corning Glass Works in Charleroi. A resident of Fallowfield Township for over 40 years; he and his wife moved to Philipsburg in September 2006. He also served during World War II with the U. S. Army. Survivors include his wife; Ruth Roberts Stagi; with whom he celebrated 63 years of marriage on Feb. 14; 2007; one son and daughter-in-law; Charles and Sue Stagi; of Philipsburg; two grandchildren; Patrick Stagi and Kate Young and husband; Wyatt; three great-grandchildren; Angel and Jacob Stagi and Maggie Sue Young; one brother-in-law; Joe Schneider; and one nephew; Bob Schneider; both of Belle Vernon. James G. Pearce; 72; of Monongahela (Carroll Township); died Saturday; Oct. 27; 2007; in Monongahela Valley Hospital. Born May 3; 1935; in Monessen; he was the son of the late George and Leah L. Story Pearce. He first worked at the former Monongahela Memorial Hospital as an orderly and X-ray technician; then went on to retire in 1996 as a nuclear medicine technologist at Monongahela Valley Hospital. Mr. Pearce was a graduate of Rostraver High School and served as a medic in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Transfiguration Catholic Church in Monongahela and its Knights of Columbus Council 2600. Mr. Pearce enjoyed reading; learning about history and being home with his family. Surviving are two daughters and one son-in-law; Debra Ann and Timothy Saltsman; of Erie; and Theresa Ann Pearce; of Monongahela; three sisters; Nancy Lackner; of Belle Vernon; Linda Glosser; of Dayton; Ohio; and Mary Lou Pearce; of Monessen. Preceding him in death was his wife; Sandra R. Dalola Pearce; on March 24; 2000; and two brothers; George R. and David Pearce. Geno Tonarelli; 90; of Belle Vernon; died Monday; Oct. 22; 2007; in Mon Valley Care Center. A son of the late Dominick and Tina Petrucci Tonarelli; he was born Dec. 27; 1916. Geno was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church; a former member of the Belle Vernon American Legion; Post 659 and the former Belle Vernon Italian Club on Market Street. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II; he had been a salesman for the former Melenyzer Furniture Company. Keith Albert Moeller; 78; of Rostraver Township; formerly of Fallowfield Township; died Tuesday; Oct. 2; 2007; in Monongahela Valley Hospital. He was employed as a civil engineer by People’s Natural Gas Co. for 32 years before retiring from People’s Gateway Two Division. Keith attended Carnegie Mellon University as a voice major and then transferred to the School of Civil Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. He served in the Korean Conflict as a member of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Keith earned the Purple Heart for Valor at Heartbreak Ridge. Born in North Charleroi; Keith was a son of the late John and Anna Blasick Moeller and the beloved husband of the late Ruth Smith Moeller. He was a brother of the late John Jack Moeller and the late Kathryn Jean Moeller. Keith graduated from Charleroi High School with the Class of 1948. During high school he was a class officer; baritone soloist and a member of the chorus; the Hi-Y and the Fallowfield Township Grange. Keith worked at Pete Hutco’s service station in Fallowfield Township during high school and; during college; was employed as a surveyor by the Charleroi McDonald Engineering Associates. Keith was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Charleroi; where he sang in the choir; served on Session; on the Board of Deacons and as treasurer. He was a member of the Charleroi Lions Club and; prior to his illness; was recently elected as president. Survivors include his beloved daughters; Paige Moeller; of Dormont; Kerry Timko and husband Bob; of Rostraver Township; with whom he made his home; his pride and joy; his grandsons; Robert Keith; Reid Alexander and Dylan Ray Timko; one sister; Mary Ann Moeller; of Rostraver Township; three sisters-in-law; Jean Dyky; of Monessen; Larue Moeller; of Willoughby; Ohio; and Freda Smith; of Charleroi; and numerous cousins; nieces and nephews. She was a member and served as an officer of the Orange Lake Civic Center while in Florida. Ted Makovsky; 89; of Scottdale; formerly of Belle Vernon; died Tuesday; Oct. 16; 2007. Born June 15; 1918; in Roscoe; he was a son of the late Joseph and Sophie Braddock Makovsky. He was a resident of Scottdale for the past several years. Mr. Makovsky was a member of Pricedale Union Church in Rostraver Township; where he was a past trustee; and he was a retired lineman for Local 126 in Philadelphia. Mr. Makovsky was a veteran of World War II; having served in the U.S. Army Air Force; and served as recording secretary for Local 126 Unit 2 in the Pittsburgh area. He also was a member of Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659 and the Naomi Athletic Club. He is survived by two brothers; Leo Makovsky; of Fayette City; and Edward Makovsky; of Eugene; Ore.; and special; devoted friends; Stella Bell; of Scottdale; with whom he made his home; and Ronald Bell and family; also of Scottdale.
