Charles Summers; 86; of Belle Vernon (Fairhope); died Monday; March 31; 2008; in Adult Assisted Living; Dunlevy. A lifelong resident of Fairhope (Washington Township; Fayette County); he was born Wednesday; March 8; 1922; a son of the late David Summers and the late Mary Wenia Summers. He served as chief and assistant chief of the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department; served on the Washington Township Water Authority; and was a life member of the Fairhope Rod & Gun Club. A brick mason by trade; Mr. Summers belonged to and retired from Local Union No. 9 Pittsburgh; Pennsylvania Chapter 11; Washington; Pa. He contributed many hours of community service for the residents of Washington Township and the surrounding area. He is survived by two sons; Timothy (Janice) Summers; of Coal Center; and Charles (Wanda) Summers; of San Ysidro; N.M.; five grandchildren; Lisa (Sam) Rocca; Jason (Sandra) Summers; Vicki (Brian) Ostermeyer; Shellie Pescetti and Charlene Summers; 10 great-grandchildren; Zachary; Nicholas; Malayna; Sammy; Cassandra; Jordan; Tyler; Rachelle; Sean and Zoey; one brother-in-law; John (Jean) Martin; of Roanoke; Va.;; and three sisters-in-law; Marge and Margie Summers; of Belle Vernon (Lynnwood); and Betty Tomasiak; of Donora. He was preceded in death by his wife; Dorothy Martin Summers; on August 23; 2004; and two brothers; David and Louis Summers. There was no public viewing; and private services were held for the family. Interment was in Belle Vernon Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the ELEY-McCRORY FUNERAL HOME INC.; Fayette City.

Frank D. Chew Jr.; 88; of North Charleroi; died Sunday; March 30; 2008; in the emergency room at Mon Valley Hospital. He was born July 1; 1919; in Belle Vernon; a son of the late Frank D. Sr. and Lottie Hough Chew. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Charleroi. Mr. Chew was employed at Page Wire and Steel Plant in Monessen and retired from the maintenance department at Mon Valley Hospital. He is survived by two daughters; Linda Lapinsky; of North Charleroi; and Rosemarie (Ronald) Bird; of Belle Vernon; his son; Frank D. III (Joanne) Chew; of Dayton; Ohio; his sister; June Hixenbaugh; of Stockdale; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; one sister-in-law; Shirley Chew; of Belle Vernon; one brother- in-law; Anthony Mosco Sr.; of Monessen; cousins; and a few special cats and a special rabbit. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his wife; Elise Bertin Chew; on December 16; 2007; with whom he celebrated 67 years of marriage on August 10; 2007; a sister; Betty; a brother; Glenn Chew; a brother-in-law; Alfred Buddy Hixenbaugh; and a sister-in-law; Yvette Mosco. Thomas E. ‘Beans’ Davis; 73; of Fayette City; died Friday; March 28; 2008 at 3:40 pm at his home. Born July 17; 1934 in Fairhope; he was the son of the late James J. Davis Sr. and Alice C. Dolan Davis. A lifelong resident of Fayette City; Mr. Davis was a member of Holy Spirit R.C. Church; Fayette City. In 2000 he retired from General Motors – Fisher Body Plant; where he worked in process control for 32 years. He also worked part time for D-A Auto; was a member of the Fayette City American Legion Post 484 and the Naomi Athletic Club. He is survived by his wife Ella Marie Auther Davis; son & daughter in law Thomas S. & Janet Davis of Fayette City; daughter Cindy Davis of Crystal River; Florida; two brothers and sister in law James J. Thomas S. Hackenson; 38; of North Belle Vernon; died Wednesday; March 26; 2008; in Mon Valley Hospital; Carroll Township. Born September 25; 1969; in North Charleroi; he was the son of Thomas and Gloria Wozniak Hackenson. He was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church in Belle Vernon; was a retired fireman and EMT from U.S. Steel; Clairton Works; and a life member of the Washington Township Fire Department. In addition to his parents; he is survived by two brothers and one sister-in-law; David and Tracey Hackenson; and Bruce Hackenson; all of Belle Vernon; two nephews; Trey and Tanner Hackenson; his maternal grandmother; Kathryn Tisot Wozniak; of Washington Township; and his very special cat; Tigger.
