James was a member of the Pricedale Union Church; Russian Club of Charleroi and; during his years at the former Rostraver High School; was a star basketball player. He worked as a steel worker at the Allenport Plant of Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel until his retirement in 1979. He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Crowley during World War II; and was awarded six battle stars during his service. Jim was an avid gardener and was well known for his prized tomatoes.
