Arthur F. Artie Kirkpatrick; 80; of Belle Vernon; passed away Sunday; May 22; 2011; in Southwestern Nursing Center. A son of the late Wilbur and Viola Hutchison Kirkpatrick; he was born in Perryopolis on Jan. 4; 1931. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Fayette City and retired in 1996 from the Follansbee Plant (West Virginia) of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Co. Survivors include his wife; Mary E. Layton Kirkpatrick; one daughter and son-in-law; Amy and Mark Thomas; of Belle Vernon; four sisters; Lydia Kuhns; of Carmichaels; Virginia Perakovich; of Denbo Heights; Elma Steiner; of Smithton and Frances McGowan; of Newell; and two grandchildren; Tyler and Melanie Thomas. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by one son; John Mark Kirkpatrick; on June 14; 1977; one sister; Grace Hayduk; and four brothers; Lawrence; Leroy; Wilbur Jr. and Norman Kirkpatrick. Walter S. ‘Sonny’ Cwiakala; 77; of Belle Vernon; died Tuesday; Jan. 20; 2009; in Meadowcrest Nursing Home; Bethel Park. A son of the late Walter and Elizabeth Ruthovsky Cwiakala; he was born in Monessen on Jan. 2; 1932. He was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church of Belle Vernon and the former Holy Spirit Church in Fayette City. Formerly of Monessen; Sonny had resided in Belle Vernon for the past 34 years; was a U.S. Army veteran and retired in 1993 from the Allenport plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Company. Lawrence R. Guarascio; 80; of Philadelphia; died Sunday; Feb. 21; 2010; at Pennsylvania Hospital; Philadelphia. Born Nov. 24; 1929; in Donora; he was the son of the late Peter and Pauline Pak Guarascio. A resident of Philadelphia for the past 35 years; Mr. Guarascio was a member of St. John’s Roman Catholic Church; and sang in the church choir. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Air Force. He was preceded in death by a sister; Molly Guarascio Fava. Visitation will be held Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the LEONARD J.
