Bernard J. Chorba; 77; of Belle Vernon; Washington Township; died Thursday; April 29; 2010; at 8:12 a.m. at his home. Born Jan. 29; 1933; in Star Junction; he was the son of the late Rudolph and Elizabeth Bartko Chorba. A resident of Washington Township for the past 43 years; Mr. Chorba was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church; was a veteran of the Vietnam War having served with the U.S. Army. He was a retired pipefitter from U.S. Steel Clairton Works. He was a member of the Naomi Club; where he served as secretary; social member of the Belle Vernon American Legion Post 659; Fayette City American Legion Post 484; Russian Club of Pricedale; Fairhope and Allenport Rod and Gun Clubs; VFW; Monessen Elks Loom 773; and was an avid sports fan; golfer and hunter. His pride and joy was his wife; children; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife; Elizabeth Kroskie Chorba; to whom he was married 47 years; two daughters and sons-in-law; Cindy and Bill Teets Sr.; of Carroll Township; Terrie and Robert Reeves; of Charleroi; three sons and daughters-in-law; Tom and Cheryl Chorba; of Elizabeth; Brian and Laurie Chorba; of Jefferson Hills; Bernie and Deb Chorba; of Bethel Park; nine grandchildren; Bo; Bobby; Adam; Ryan; Courtney; Christopher; Tommy; Cassidy and Tyler; three great-grandchildren; Lyla; Carmen and John Ryan; and many dear relatives. He was preceded in death by two brothers; Rudolph and Emil Chorba; a sister; Mary Skvarna; and a great-granddaughter; Lucianna Theresa Reeves. Helen I. (Karavanich) Francia; 84; of Monessen; died Thursday; April 22; 2010; in Monongahela Valley Hospital. She was born in Donora on March 7; 1926; the daughter of the late Martin and Ursula (Pernar) Karavanich. She was a resident of Monessen most all her life; and a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church. Years ago; she was active with the Count Calories Carefully (CCC) group that met at the Mon Valley Community Health Center; and she enjoyed bowling. Mary Jane Jones was born to Roy Lewis and Edith Staff Smock in Belle Vernon;Pa.on June 27;1931. She attended school in Belle vernon and graduated from Rostraver High School in 1946. She married William S.Jones;Jr.of Belle Vernon on October 2;1953. The resided in Belle Vernon until February 1964 when they moved to Rockville;Md. Mary Jane worked for Bank of America for 30 years. Her hobbies included cross-stitching;reading;and ceramics. She volunteered with Meals on Wheels in Montgomery County;Maryland. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren. Mary Jane and William had two daughters;Melanie Jane Owen and Karen Lee Oliver. She had three grandchildren;Heather Leigh O’Connor;Erin Marie Cassell;and Mahatha Marshall Oliver;III. She also had three great-grandchildren;Owen Highland O’Connor;Liam James O’Connor and Zoey Grace Cassell. Mary Jane passed waay on December 7;2009 of heart failure as a result of pulmonary artery hypertension.
WILLIAM S. JONES JR
William S.Jones;Jr.was born on July 29;1929;in Belle Vernon;Pa.;to William S.Jones and Clarissa Virginia Jones. He had two brothers;Samuel S.Jones and George W.Jones;and a sister;Clara S.Jones;all of Belle Vernon. He attended school in Belle Vernon and graduated from Belle Vernon High School in 1946. He was a volunteer fireman in Belle Vernon and a member of the Lion’s Club. He served in the United States Army as Corporal in the Korean War from 1950-1952. Upon his discharge;he married Mary Jane Smock of Belle Vernon on October 2;1953. They lived in Belle Vernon until February 1964 when they moved to Rockville;Md. He worked in the food industry for a food broker. He sang in the church choir;and he was an active member of the Barbershop Society in Montgomery County;Md for 37 years. He and Mary Jane had two daughters;Melanie Jane Owen and Karen Lee Oliver. He had three grandchildren;Heather Leigh O’Connor;Erin Marie Cassell;and Mahatha Marshall Oliver III. He also had three great-grandchildren;Owen Highland O’Connor;Liam James O’Connor and Zoey Grace Cassell. William passed away on February 2;2010 at his home as a result of a heart attack.

A resident of Washington Township for the past 45 years; Mr. Stringhill was a member of St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church. He was the owner/operator of the former Stringhill’s Restaurant; Washington Township. He was currently serving on the Belle Vernon Area School Board; member of the Fayette City-Washington Township Lions Club; Fayette City American Legion; served Meals on Wheels; and enjoyed gardening; camping; and especially enjoyed cooking and having Sunday dinner for his family. He was also a veteran; having served with the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife; Judith Swantek Stringhill; to whom he would have been married 50 years on June 18; 2010; two daughters and a son-in-law; Jackie Nicholson; of Fruitland; Fla.; Jodi and Frank Monack; of Perryopolis; a son; Joseph C.
