Joann Vaccaro Fields; 78; of Belle Vernon; passed away Wednesday; May 2; 2012; with her loving family at her side. A daughter of the late Gasper and Catherine Ambrose Vaccaro; she was born on Feb. 1; 1934. Besides her parents; she was preceded in death by her son; Dickie Fields; grandson; Jasen Winget; sister; Adele Punky Nelson; and brother; Charles Buzzy Vaccaro. She is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years; Dick Fields; daughter and son-in-law; Jodie and Jim Winget of Greer; SC; sons and daughters-in-law; Mike and Libby Fields; of Belle Vernon; and David and Vonda Fields; of Orlando; FL; six grandchildren; Jarret Winget; Autumn; Austin; Garret; Connor; and Morgan Fields; her sister; Cathi (Marshall) Carpenter of Monessen; and brother-in-law; Arnold Nelson; of The Villages; FL; sister-in-law; My-Hoa Vaccaro of Australia; nieces; Barb (Tim) Mayer; Patti (Mike) Seacrist; Linh Vaccaro; and Kerri Carpenter; nephews; David(Lorrie) Nelson; Kenny (Pam) VonBergen; Brian (Katy) VonBergen; Peter Vaccaro; and Kevin Carpenter; as well as numerous great nieces; nephews; and cousins. She was a graduate of Montifore School of Nursing carrying her RN licenses in SC; FL; and PA. She worked for many years at Mon Valley and Jefferson Hospitals and with the practices of Dr. James Elmore and Dr. Ronald Salvitti. She was a committed runner; and a well-known participant in many local races receiving all first place medals. She was an avid traveler in and out of the US including a medical missionary trip to Kenya. Her boundless energy and passion for learning continued into her retirement; evidenced by her most recent job at Universal Studios in Orlando; Fl; where she made her winter home in nearby Leesburg. She loved to play the piano and spend time with her grandchildren. She was an active member of the Belle Vernon First Presbyterian Church. Friends will be received 7 to 9 P.M. George M. Popella; 90; of Belle Vernon; Rostraver Township; died Sunday; April 15; 2012; in the Victoria House; Monessen. Born in Pricedale on Sept. 4; 1921; he was the son of the late George J. and Anna (Mustybrook) Popella. George was a retired crane operator for Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel in Monessen. He was an avid sportsman and he loved to hunt and fish. He was also an amateur radio operator under the call sign WA3EBJ and was Catholic by faith. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law; Robert M. and Mary Popella; of Rostraver Township; two grandsons; Robert M. Popella Jr.; of Beaver Falls; and Michael R. Popella; of Montgomery; Pa.; four great-grandchildren; Tegan; Heidi; Sierra and Sylvia Popella; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his first wife; Lois (Dixon) Popella; second wife; Irene (Swan) Popella; and three brothers; Joseph; Steve and James Popella.
